Default Toe/Heel Shifter "How To"

This link takes you to my complete "How To" inexpensive solution for a Toe/Heel shifter assembly. I did the conversion on my new 09 1200c.

I had a toe & heal change on a bike a few years ago and once I got used to it I liked it. It worked because it had boards for the feet rather than pegs and I'm not too sure of the point of having it with pegs.

The ones shown here look a bit messy, with lots of hardware. Maybe its because the toe and heal pads aren't inline.

I had a hell toe shifter once, hated it. Never could get used to it. I give you marks for ingenuity but it is one mod I won't be making.

My last two bikes had heel-toe shifters. Once you get used to using your heel (down) to shift up, it feels really natural. Not to mention they make doing 5 gear burnouts a breeze!

Thanks, Murph. The joy was in the inspiration. I was amazed at the simplicity and low cost in the solution. Granted, it's not for everyone, but a toe/heel shifter is great for aching feet and old school habits.

Fox, thanks for the reply. The "messy" pegs are one alternative in relieving the vibration of foot pegs. The heel post "grounds" the vibration. Personally, I am in favor of a different design, but these were "free" from a friend during a long ride. Am working on a shortened version. Footpans, for me, do not have the look I desire on a Sportster.

Thanx for the "marks", Warden. I began serious riding in 1969-70 on a '54 panhead rigid. The toe shifter has always reminded me of small foreign bikes. Agreed, the heel/toe shift is difficult for familiarity if accustomed to the toe shifter.
