Default If you plan on relocating ECM (Read This)

O.K. I relocated my ECM inside the battery cover on my Nightster tonight, so I would like to share what I figured out, so you don't have to deal with the head aches of trial and error yourselfs. I searched this forum up and down to come up with a plan on how I was going to do this. This is what worked for me. I went to a thread from eNightster from when he did the same thing.

First go to this thread http://xlforum.net/forums/s...&highlight=ecm and look at the photo eNightster put on there, it is self explanatory by looking at the photo.

Once you have done this, is were the problem seems to come forth. How to get the battery cover door to shut. You will repeatadley get a gap on the top of the battery cover which sucks and noone wants. Heres the trick so you don't get that gap at the top.

1. Pull the battery cover completly off.

2. When you put it back on, attach the top first so it looks like it did when you got it.

3. Now, for the bottom of the battery cover. Zip tie the bottom of the battery cover from the slit in it, to the plastic mount that it usually attaches to. This will leave about a 1/2 gap on the bottom of the battery cover, but you will never notice it. Believe me, I am very anal about my bike. You can't tell its even there, unless someone is laying on there back looking under the battery cover, which would be strange anyways.

If you do it this way it shouldn't take more than 30 min. I hope I save someone a few hours of aggrevation.

I am assuming you did this to accommodate the addition of the springer seat. I thought about the springer seat for my 883C as well. Could you post a few pics and let us know where you got the seat? I found a company that makes springer seat mount that hides it up under the base plate. A pretty expensive set up in my opinion considering it is only the mount and you are required to buy the seat separate. It is made by an Ebay company called Motheroadcustoms66 for anyone that is interested. Thanks for this information on the relocation.

cool idea! I havent moved my ECM yet but my side cover has been a pain since day 1, so I put two reusable zip ties in the place were the clips were, u can find them at a place like home despot, save u from having to carry around a bunch of spare zip ties every time you want to open the battery cover.
