Default XLX Sportster

What is an XLX? What makes it different than a regular XLH or XL? I bought an 84 to fix and sell, and I think it's going to be more headache than it's worth.. I actually might be worth more parted out, what do you guys think?

The XLX was merely the cheapest(everything Black) stripped down solo seat XL model they sold...."different" in this case = Lowest cost, I believe they sold for $3995 when they were first released ?

The characteristics that distinguish an XLX from the other XLs:

Mostly appearance items. Black pipes, black flat track-style handlebars, small 2 gallon tank, cast wheels, single instrument, solo seat, small front fender, matte silver rocker boxes, engine covers, and fender struts, and very little chrome. Made from '83 to '85, the first models were available in black paint only. The later ones were available in other colors (mainly red and blue) with chrome pipes. This model Ironhead is what the '86 883 Evo styling was based on.

"least expensive" might be a more fair description than "cheapest".

Default XLX Trivia question...(yes I know the answer)

In 1983 the first production XLX was given away to someone that Harley felt was special, who was that Special Person ? Btw, knowing me and what I'm interested in is a clue, take a guess....here's another hint, this guy is one year older than I am.

Jay Springsteen?

So the XLX sounds like the original Nightster, or Iron, as they called the no-chrome, basic black Sporties now. (even though there is not a single piece of iron on them)
