tune for a2004 1200 r
hi, another newbie from south shore ,mass.(old newbie in age ,new to anything more advanced than the shovelhead era.)I' m changing from stock to a K&n intake kit and cycle shack pipes.
in reading most of the carb tuning stuff I think i'm reading that 04 and up rubbermounts have different jetting requirements? should I fatten up the jets while it's apart or run it first with the new stuff? just trying to pre-empt any cluster#@%ks before i screw something up. it runs awesome now. ps. this is the greatest harley site ever!
thanks for putting up my boring blurb to those who have been there ,done that.

Going to the freer flowing intake and exhaust, will lean your mixture out more than it is now. You will most likely need to enrich your fuel mixture. Read this sticky here before you begin, it should answer most of your questions... http://xlforum.net/forums/s...d.php?t=642408

1+ on Xena's advice, also only change one thing at a time so you know exactally what it going on with the bike.

+2: run it first with the new stuff and let the engine tell you what it needs.

Back when I first got the bike I tried the Indy
over off Page St. in Avon...When I got it
back the plugs were fouled and it was running
worse than when I brought it there.
$140 bucks wasted. Since then I began educating
myself here and happy to say that other than
new tires no wrench other than myself has
touched my Sporty.

These are pretty simple motors if you have any mechanical ability. You'll do fine. Better buy the factory shop manual though. They are invaluable.
