PRICE REDUCED!
This bike is a one off custom 1977 Harley Davidson 1000cc Sportster which I built to resemble a military scout bike, such as a WLA or Indian from the WWII period. It consists of parts from a wide variety of Harley motorcycles from many periods, and the result is an absolutely unique ride. It is a stock frame, and stock front end. The rear end is rigid with bolt on struts. It was originally an electric start bike, but has been converted to kick only. The engine top end is fresh. The bike sounds great, rumbles, but is not obnoxious.
- Footboards from a 45 flathead
- Cut back timing cover to accomplish a more “bigtwin” look.
- 2” stainless exhaust, fabricated to look like a WLA
- New battery
- New voltage regulator
- New coil
- New points
This bike is a project which took quite some time and ingenuity to complete, but it is not 100% finished. There are things which need to be completed or adjusted, and some mild fabrication to accomplish. If you are a tinkerer, this is a good candidate for you. Or, rather, you would be a good candidate for the bike. But I do ride it daily as is, I just have not had the time to get some of the final, finer things wrapped up.
Here is a list of some things which should be addressed:
- Tank mounting setup needs to be improved, it is not as clean as I would like.
- Headlight and horn need to be raised a bit, they bump the fender if large bumps are hit.
- The carb intake manifold hose fittings leak, a set of “superclamps” or aircraft clamps and reassembly would fix this. The bike runs a little lean, but at first choke position, runs well.
- The rear rocker box gasket leaks, but I just need to retorque the bolts – if that does not work, I have gaskets.
- Speedo cable or sender are bad, not sure which – speedo does not work at the moment.
- Front brake disc is currently off the bike, I had to find a replacement for the rusted one I had. I have it now, just have to install it and bleed the brake system.
-The kicker plate or spring is not working properly, the kicker does not engage well, but I can start the bike.
Bottom line is, it’s a great work in progress.
