View Full Version : Sportster 1200N (also known by some as the Nightster) advice to owners and non-owners

The Sportster 1200N (also known by a few as a Nightster) and Nightster owner dissing here is getting a little out of hand.

I have given the mods guidance to close and delete any thread or post that is strictly created to disrespect Nightsters or Nightster owners and I am going to start giving infractions for any posts or threads that blatant attempts to create confrontation.

Yeah...I know...some people have brought it upon themselves and we all know (even 99.9% of Nightster owners) that the Nightster is a Sportster. Just like the Roadsters, Custom, Low, Sport, Deluxe, etc....

I am not saying that you can not joke and rib each other. I am mostly concerned about those that seem to have taken it upon themselves to post some kind of crappy disrespectful remark in any thread where the Nightster is mentioned.

If anyone sees a post or thread that fits into what I have described please click on the http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/images/buttons/orange/report.gif in the upper right hand corner of the offending post. This will send a message to the admins and Super-Mods to take a look at the post or thread and take appropriate action.

I am not trying to be an ass but some of the crap that has been said on here lately is making XLF look like a place where Nightster owners are not welcome. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Nightster is great motorcycle. A motorcycle many of us Sportster Enthusiasts have been hoping the MoCo would build for a long time. It is a motorcycle that has opened the eyes of many new or Non-HD riders that would have never considered a Sportster or an HD. Instead of making them feel unwelcome and unwanted, lets guide them and show them that they have a great motorcycle that is a member of the great Sportster family.

All Sportsters are special.

I know of no other motorcycle that has had more influence on more riders and has influenced more motorcycle models. There would be no Buell (as we know it) without the Sportster, many say HD would no longer exist if there was no Sportster, that it was the Sportster that pulled HD through the hard times.

Yes, the Nightster is special, it is special because it shows that the MoCo is listening to US...The International Sportster and Buell Enthusiasts Forum. We are the ones who have been discussing this bike since the beginning of this forum. There are brave ones of us here who chopped, bobbed, cafed, and everything else in between that influenced the production of our brother bike the Sportster 1200N Nightster.

The same goes for "some" Nightster owners. It does you no good to piss off the guys and gals here that have been riding Sportsters since Willie G was still using Clearasil. They know the Sportster inside and out and when you have a problem with your Sportster 1200N they will bend over backwards to help you out. Don't diss the guys and gals who don't have a Nightster...the way you feel about your Sportster 1200N...they feel the same way or more about their Sportster Standard, Custom, Low, Roadster, Deluxe, etc....

So lets embrace our Nightster riding brothers and sisters. If you see one that is a bit misguided, help them out instead of dogging them out.

Yep - things have been getting out of hand the last few days. My Sportys are older, but if I could afford a new one, it would be a blue 1200N like RoadChick's. I have nothing against the Nightster or their owners, although it seems like a few people do...

Ditto, no problem at all with anybody that rides, but an ass is an ass, regardless of what they ride !

Its funny, really....I really don't get it.... :dunno

The Nightster is another great model of our beloved Sportster....

It has, in fact, brought LOTS of attention to the Sportster line....especially among newbies....

Although I wouldn't OWN one myself, its not because its not a great bike, but because I won't own anything newer than 03....

That's an "across the board" thing....not Nightster specific....

I've ridden the N, and its a FINE bike, by any standards...

The separation of the bike and its owners is ill-advised, and not consistent with the community we have....

Things were sliding down that slippery slope for a week or two.
Glad you saved it.

I think the separation will burn off once the Nightster has been out a little longer. I was surprised there was such a separation in the first place since every idea on the Nigthster is something that's been done before, just maybe not in that particular combination.
I'll admit I bought a set of the gators but they didn't fit without a gap because my bike is not lowered so I took them back off and sold them.

When the Irish come to this country they took crap.
When the Italians came they took crap.
When the Asians came.... and so on.

My personal take is that the only real flames came to those that provoked it and not just because they ride a different kind of Sportster. Thanks for the "law" Bert.

As a rule I don't like cencorship, stifling of free-speach..... but this looks to me like the right move.....some (a few) of the postings seemed to boil over in terms of anger and visceral bile.......didn't represent the spirit of this forum and why I enjoy being a part of it.....sharing, knowledge, helping each other.......gawd knows there's enough anti-bike 'cagers' out there who hate us and just don't get the Bike thing....we don't need to disrespect/hate each other too!!

Right decision, Thanks Bert.....:) Leumas

PS..... P!ss-taking and banter is fine by me - fun and healthy.....just not happy with the dis-respect thing.
