New here on the forum! I've been saving all winter for my first bike and I think I'll be making the plunge this weekend. Found a 2004 1200R with 8k miles for $4500. Took a look at it a few days ago and it seems good to go. The tank has a healthy dent and the seller admitted to dropping it once. So I counter offered him $4000 and he agreed! Thoughts? Anything I should be concerned about? Looks clean (minus the dent) and seemed to run good. Good or bad deal?

HEY THATS MY BIKE! well it looks like mine did except for the ugly drag bars. Welcome to the forum that is about half what I paid for mine new, not bad. Take some time to look through the forums before you start buying anything for it. Especially performance parts many of them are more for looks than performance. You will probably end up changing the seat, shocks, exhaust, and aircleaner start with, most people do anyway.

Welcome from central Missouri. That's about what I paid for mine with almost the same mileage. I thought it was a good deal. I say go for it.

Welcome to the XLForum.

The $500 you saved will buy you a new painted tank from a dealer.

The dent is on the left side of the tank. About the size of a golf ball cut in half. I took it for a ride a few days ago. I don't have much to compare it to because i have only ridden my friends nightster. It had a hard time starting up cuz its freezing cold and I doubt the kid has started it once all winter.
Shoud I be concerned with the front end or something not being true/straight from the drop? I think I would have noticed it pulling or wandering to one side....?

This is the direction I want to sorta take it....

....knuckledragger is more of an inside joke between a few of my friends.

Thanks to everyone for the warming welcome. Looks like tomorrow I"m going to Salt Lake to pick up this beast. Wish it wasn't snowing at this very moment.

:)Welcome knckledragger from snowy Huskerland!

You can ride like you stole it cause you almost did:D

With a dent in the tank I'd be tempted to find a 4.5 gallon tank and sell the dented tank to someone for their bobber project:tour
