Hereattached is some of my IronHead, on the basement floor, whilest the frame, engine, front fork, and front wheel reside in the workshop. Camera batteries running low. Darn.
At the top is the original exhaust headers and shields i got from eBay; also from eBay there is the original air cleaner under a yellow envelope which contains the aluminum tank badges and the Sportster case decal, also from eBay. Love that eBay.
Also have coming [from you-know-where] are new front and rear sprockets, new taillite lens [mine is cracked] and new throttle cable.

In the very top rite corner you can see some red. That is a red plastic basket containing a variety of parts which need a little paint touch-up. Using Tremclad Gloss Black. There's the choke cable tube, ignition key mount, right side cover, etc. Yup, there's a basket all right!!

LOL Strange thing to do just to get your bike in the basement, take it apart. I think I could do that. Actually, I would have to take it apart to get it in the basement. LOL

Now i am confused. Did i take it apart to get it into the basement? Or did i get it into the basement to take it apart? Or based on the parts is it into .... ?Or did i part it out to the basement to frame up the workshop? Or ..., or .., or ohhhhhh. Whose basement has my bike? Where are the wheels? What ... ? eh?

Someone needs to sneak over to Mick's and toss a couple extra bolts into the pile. It get's real interesting at re-assembly time!

Hey! Enuf, eh! I have already a nut and star washer that i don't remember where they came from.
There are two bolts attaching the generator - one fine thread and one coarse thread. Some DPO! I ran a tap into it. Fortunately the threads do not appear to be totally wrecked.
The following statement is secret; do not read it if you cannot keep a secret. There are some oriental parts on this bike! I shouldn't say things like that on such a public Harley forum.
It is actually going quite well. I have spent about $200.00 on stainless steel nuts, bolts & washers etc to replace the rusty stuff. Probably more than another $50.00 worth before i am done. I'll put up a new pic soon.

Hey Mick-
Where'd you get your chrome bolts and hardware... any on-line site you'd recommend?
I have the same problem. Found out the bike fit in the basement/shop, brought it in, and went crazy with a wrench! It's a bit like takling down a tree with a chain saw: easy to start, with a huge pile to clean up afterward! Now what do I do with all the pieces and parts? I'm afraid when it's reassembled, it may look like a Volkswagen!

I am using stainless steel rather than chrome for all the replacement nuts & bolts etc. I buy the parts at Facca Fasteners here in town. A business owned by the Facca family. There are several fastener shops in town but most sell stuff only by the box [25, 50, 100 pieces]. Facca sells also "by onsies and twosies". I always bring my parts in so they can be measured for exact replacement.
Try looking up "fasteners" in the yellow pages.
At one point in the process i stopped and labeled all the parts, bolts etc as to where they came from. At first i thought i would remember - most stuff only goes one way in one place. But there are too many parts to do it that way.
