If your bike is set up correctly you will never need to cool the oil. My bike has a cooler and I had to get a leather cover made so my bike would stay in optimum temp range. The only time I remove the cover is when it is around 100 degrees here. Don't waste your money. Oil that is too cold is not good for the bike.

Yup, too much emphasis is placed on oil coolers (for sales of course) and unless you know you'll be in extreme conditions, lissen to ol' ralphie.

How about upgrading the oil pump on my 1996 XL1200C to the 1998+ pump?

Have no clue about that one. That is a Stevo or Shu or another person question there.
