So apparently I needed to start my own thread just for local chat related items. Please don't introduce yourself here. That's for the other thread...
If you have any questions specifically for local members, go ahead. Even if it's not Alberta specific, go ahead. Who cares? Maybe you need some local mechanical assistance, maybe you need to borrow a tool, questions about local events, get togethers, looking for riding buddies etc. Hell, Oilers vs Flames? Talk about whatever you want. We're adults, I doubt most of us would get confused.
I just want to promote chat and see what everyone else is up to.

So here's what's going on with me. I just imported an 08 Nightster from the US without issue. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I'd be more then happy to help out. The more of us out there, the better. The bike is currently at Time Machine Motorsports and John and Wanda there have been very helpful with a newbie to the Harley World. If you're looking for an Indy shop, I suggest dropping by someday. They have an in house Dynojet and I'll be posting up my numbers later.
Also, FYI, Edmonton Motorcycle Swap Meet on April 2nd. I'll definitely be roaming around. You never know what you'll find or sell.

Any word if Calgary is going to go ahead with a noise bylaw?

Not sure if they're going to open up that can of worms again, but as far as I heard last fall, Calgary and Red Deer both said they got bigger fish to fry, noise bylaws were scrapped.

it wont be long and everywhere will have it and they already kinda do but will they enforce it is the question i ask because most piggies cant be bothered by pulling every bike over when they clearly have more important shit to do i think there are far worse things then the sound of a finaly tuned harley puttin through town kinda like that tweeker with his stereo up so loud rippin through town with his gay ass bumble bee exhaust on his rust bucket car

Not surprised. That's a nice area to cruise. Lots of bikes out that way on the weekends. I guess I can understand, those people moved out there for the peace and quiet of country life. The trouble is, it is ridiculously close to Calgary!! Probably anyone from Calgary who owns a bike has done that run more than once. Hell, I've done it 2 or 3 times and I live in Edmonton.

YUP! Wifey's N with SE slip-ons is JUST acceptable according to the EPS.
I think they will be all gung-ho for the first bit, but as they find out how much valuable time it sucks up, and how many tickets get thrown out because they didn't set the test up right, they will ease up. I don't think most cops really care as long as you're not being an a-hole and trying to annoy people. The other thing is, they will set up "noise check stops"
on popular bike routes, so avoid those areas. I got by with my sideshots all last summer and this spring. Changed them out for my own reasons.

Talk to Al at Hi-Per Cycle. Sometimes he can be a little bit to deal with, but you will be satisfied with the work and the rates. He'll work with you if you want to do the bulk of the dismantling and just bring in the lower end.

It was a bit ago, but he did the bottom end on my 91 when the crank splayed out where the woodruff key fits on the sprocket side. I just talked with him, and brought it in when he was READY to do the work, instead of leaving it there until it got done. He had it done in under a week for me. Never a problem since.

sunchild2071
24th June 2011, 18:20
I can't recall, would have to dig up some paperwork, but it was well under 1G. Needed to replace the sprocket shaft, so it included breaking the cases and crank apart and redoing the crankshaft then re-assembly of the cases. I thought his pricing was excellent for the work done.

ya the guy at hi-per cycle said he would have to have a look at it to even give me a quote then i asked about time frame as i need it back before the 20th of july or there goes my holidays and he had no answer for me there but i think he thought i want it back by next wednesday or somethin he also said they have rocky mountain nationals this weekend
then i called after dark motorcycles he was a nice enough guy but was a little out to lunch with price as i told him i wanna do a 1200 kit in this bike he told me 3500 to 4000 for the job i said like hell i only paid 4000 for the bike im
welsh motorcycle repair told me around 1500 to 2000 ans even if its 2500 i could live with that maby and im still waiting on a call back from time machine
man oh man this is not gonna be cheep but im leaning towards welsh as i have had my rockers done there and they gottem done reall quick

Would be glad to help out, but like Roadtrip said...."it"s that stupid work thing"
Lay the engine on its side(you might have to block it up a bit) and lay the frame over it, bolt up the mounts and stand her back up.
Simple in theory but could be a bit awkward with a fully assembled bike.
Better than :censor in" up your back and not being able to ride due to injury.:doh

i was thinkin of setting it up on blocks and just sliding it into the frame ill stand the bike up and strap it into place and build up blocks level to the frame and just slide it in is what i hope i can do i would lay it down but then i would have to take the fenders and bars off so i dont eff those up and thats to much pissin around this should be a peace of piss doin it this way

NI-STR
14th July 2011, 04:58
I think there are a few reasons for the lack of parts.......
Harley will up-sell you if at all possible.
The "girls bike" stigma.
The need to "compensate" for a lack of.....whatever. = big bike, big truck, etc
Peer pressure and the need to fit in.
+ more I'm sure.
It all adds up to poor aftermarket support (for the XL)since most people are buying BTs
Sportster owners are a different breed I think. (We're actually comfortable with ourselves)
921200hd
14th July 2011, 05:19
harley could make a retarded amount of money if they sold more sportys and worked that market a little better and to be honest with you before i bought this bike i called it a girls bike and said ill never ride one untill the day i had 4000 cash and bought one now im tickeld pink about it and love the damn thing to death i call it my third child but the aftermarket is there for these bikes there is stuff out there it just seems like you always have to order it and never get to see it and touch it before you buy it

YES, there is a new type of racing that will be hitting the ice in 2012!
A take off from the endurance two-way racing, this will be a short course of 800-1500m that is very similar to a go-kart track. Course will be close to the oval track and will be run at the same time as oval racing. We are hoping to attract new racers as it may be difficult to coordinate oval and sprint in the same day. This is a new style of racing and we will be working out some of the details as we go along. Classes are general to start out and as this discipline grows, so will the classes. Then the ultimate goal would be in the future to run Sprint on Saturdays and Oval on Sundays, but for 2012, it is not feasible to do so. So call up your friends and family and help us to introduce this new style and make is a SUCCESS! A call to all mini roadracers, there is a special Thumper class just for you!

Well, I thought this thread had died. Glad to see its still going.
I guess it's high time I made an update.
Moved to Cowtown back in October. So far it's been a bit of a struggle. Wifey went down on her bike due to being severely cut off by an elderly driver. (He got his licence pulled shortly thereafter. Multiple charges.) She actually came out of it fairly well but :censor her already bad right knee. She got a new one about two weeks ago so is off work for a while, and yes she's healing up nicely.
Unfortuneatly my dream job has turned out to be a nightmare and her income would be really useful about now.
Ah well, at least the weather has been nice. Got out for a short ride yesterday.
Looking forward to hopefully meeting up with the XLFers down here this summer.
Cam.

you got out for a ride yesterday? man, I'm a wuss. It'd be great to hook up for coffee when it's a tad warmer. And I should finally have my bike back together.
You'll have to get used to the damn wind down here, but there are a lot of nice rides close to Calgary.
Hopefully your wife's new knee heals quickly. If it was bad before, she might be further ahead with the new one. Did her bike survive the crash?
NI-STR
17th February 2013, 14:40
Yeah, the bike survived. Sent it to Kane's. Insurance will cover it. (But Wifey got carried away and there will be extra cost involved):doh
Looking forward to the rides down here. From Edmonton its all pretty boring.

Holy! glad she's in one piece!!
The chuck to cow town...I don't know if I could do that,I know I like it in the Middle(RD).
Taxes are a little higher here, but I like the small city feel.
I did go for a short ride yesterday also,51 F it was, getting out of the lane was the trick ,on the road it was some dirty in places.
Other the that it was fine.

Glad she's in a position to recover.
Secondaries, secondaries, secondaries. There's so many of them, you can get on endless trips and not take the same one twice.
I love my location, also. Within 3 hours, you can be in anything you want. We have a great province.

I picked up the 3/4" drive socket set, yesterday. Much easier way to pull the clutch hub on the '68, with the right size socket.
Definitey some good prices, if you needs tools.
