View Full Version : Article comparing Sportsters to Dynas? jwillie 15th November 2004, 17:43 I think that I once heard someone on this site refer to an magazine article that compared these bikes. Anyone know anything about it or how to reprint it? Thanks, Bar 15th November 2004, 18:45 Yes, I would be interested in reading that post or article myself. I had previously planed on purchasing a Dyna LowRider, but when I saw the two bikes side by side they were very similar in appearance. Plus I saved about 5 grand and purchased by son a new dirt bike (ktm). Bar pquirk 15th November 2004, 18:50 I remeber the article, I think they compared a Low Rider to a XL1200C. If I remember right it was in one of those magazines that the MoCo puts out. The Enthusiast perhaps. My recollection is pretty fuzzy but it was probably in the second-to-last issue. jwillie 15th November 2004, 20:06 I seem to remember a reference to Cycle World, but that hasn't helped either. wickedsprint 15th November 2004, 20:17 ...alot of good reviews here, might check that. http://motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/testfinder/ twinsporty 15th November 2004, 22:14 I believe it was in Iron Works, but I'm not sure (can't seem to find it anywhere  ). They compared a 1200 roadster to a Dyna sport. In the end they bitched about the sportys suspension but gave it kudos for the power to weight ratio. chupacabra 15th November 2004, 23:38 There could be another one out there, but there was definitely a cover story in Enthusiast (the moco magazine) earlier this year that sounds like what you're referring to. It had a photo of a 2004 Dyna and a 2004 sportster side by side on the front and an article comparing them. I'm at work now, but I think I still have it at home. ufaf 16th November 2004, 01:44 I hope someone is able to find the article. It sounds very interesting. SportsterBart 16th November 2004, 02:17 I googled it, and found a bunch of links : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=sportsters+vs+dynas&btnG=Google+Search Hope that helps ;) Bart engine 16th November 2004, 03:06 Iron Works, Sept/Oct '04 did a comaparo between 1200R and Dyna Sport. In a nutshell, the Dyna's better suspension allows it to corner better, but the 1200's grunt will pull away from the Dyna in a straight line. The extra $$ you spend for the Dyna pretty much goes into the adjustable shocks and whatnot...which you can get for a sporty anyhow... wickedsprint 16th November 2004, 04:12 ...and an easier to work on engine and transmission...I like how the TC88 still has the separate trans. skinnyboy 22nd November 2004, 22:56 jwillie, check out american-v.co.uk/, it's a British v-twin mag. You can read back issues. They did a review on a '03 sporty vs '03 lowrider. The sportster kicked its a$$. dexter 24th November 2004, 14:18 There are loads of head-to-head reviews in back copies of American-V magazine. See it on the web: click http://www.american-v.co.uk The guy who writes the magazines says he is not a big Sportster fan because the MoCo never did what they knew they could do with the motor, they left it to Eric Buell. His sidekick who does a second opinion is a Sportster fan, though and writes more openly about them. It's a great magazine, and free on the web every two months after the next issue is published. I don't know how you US guys put up with the mags you get - they're so full of BS, showbikes and dodgy parts suppliers. Subscribe now. wickedsprint 24th November 2004, 16:05 We don't know how to read well over here so we survive with pictures to make up for it :) sportsterrific 24th November 2004, 16:25 There was an article comparing the two in a recent edition of The Enthiusiat magazine. Obviously it's biased toward Harley Davidson products so you won't get an honest comparison, but they're such different bikes, how can you compare? Just buy one of each. thunderpaw 25th November 2004, 01:27 Went to the AmericanV site. A breath of fresh air! Good writing. No BS. No sense of being compromised due to advertisers. Thanks!!!
