I'm looking for a brainstorming sessions on fabbing up a cover to go over the passenger seat on my 1200R. Here's what I've come with so far:

Mold the shape on top of the seat (out of oil-based clay or insulation foam - the foam would be coated with wood glue to keep it from melting).

Lay fiberglass on top of the mold.

Body filler, sand, and paint.

This is a process I learned at design school for model making, though I'm not certain how either the clay or foam will hold up (we used plaster molds).

The cover will be held on in the back using the same screw that holds down the back of the seat. In the front it will be held on by wedging itself under the overhang up near the riders seat and the top right behind the riders seat.

If anyone has any tips/help/ideas/past experiences, let me know. Thanks!

I know im new to the forum, but i have been thinkin about the same thing for my cafe project. I am actually gonna try using some styrofoam from a shipping crate , and cut it to shape with a "hot knife". Once i get the basic shape, ill cover with paper mache and then lay fiberglass. Ive been thinking about covering the foam with a thin rubber or poly, so that when the glass has cured, i can remove the foam to create a "stash". If i go the route of the stash, i'll have to fab a spring hinged trap door pillion so i can access the stash part. I will definitely try the hard styrofoam instead of insulation foam and work with stock removal, rather than fight with the liquid foam to hold its shape.

Hope this is helpful,
Brett

if the cover is to go over the seat itself use the seat as a mold

put glad wrap over the seat and apply the fibreglass matting and resin

when its dry it will separate ok

have used this method for seat bases using the frame and guard as the actual mold
