False neutral between 2-3 and other Tranny probs

Hey guys. I picked up a 2004 XB12R and I have put about 3,000 mi on it since then. Here's my issues:

There's a false neutral in between 2-3
When shifting into 2nd it pops back down to 1st or neutral

I adjusted the clutch, but it didn't change anything. Any suggestions?

Also, would either of these work for mine?

From my experience over the last over the last 37 years with 12 Harleys, Harley has never been able to have a neutral light work correctly all the time. As an Engineer this seems like an extremely simple thing to do.

Hmm.. Yeah I guess let me clarify. It's not the light. The bike is in "neutral" between 2nd and 3rd

have you tried adjusting thr primary chain tension? that can cause all kinds of strange behavior if not in spec

Sounds like it would need a look inside. There's clearance problems, fork problems, or gears that are worn to a point where they are not engaging and holding.

I can't comment knowledgeably on if either of the options you linked to would fit your application.

Unfortunately, there isn't a trap door anymore. I have avoided opening up bottom ends up to this point, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to pop the cases on this one. The Primary chain wasn't really loose. It had freeplay, but not much.
