My sister is visiting me for a few days (she lives in Seattle) & is driving me nuts with her obsession over the Royal Wedding!!

With apologies to all you manly men for bringing up a wedding topic, as well as to our good friends across the pond, I must ask if any of you are also dealing with "Royally obsessed" family members? I will say the new Duchess is quite the hotty!

I have an attitude when it comes the wastefulness of the royal. A good friend of mine runs a program for under-priviledged youths in the city of Birmingham. A very noble and honorable not-for-profit organization he is running that gives some of these kids a chance that they would never have. Well funding has been slashed because the tories answer to fix everything is to eliminate "useless" programs. The cost of this royal wedding to the taxpayers could be used to run his not-for-profit for over thirty years! I'm not even going to get into the troops being pulled back from the war in Afghanistan to work the security detail of this...

I must admit that I watched the replay. Not so interested in the Wedding but the military uniforms, horse cavalry, ornate carriages and palaces that you can drive buses into were worth seeing. The Brits really know how to throw a wedding!

Oh, Kate's sister was cute too.

And Prince Harry sure seemed smug the whole time. (In a good way)

I'm not by any means a royalist, but there is something about all the pomp and pageantry that stirs the blood. :gbflag :horseride

I think you mean Prince William who was looking smug (and who wouldn't? ;)). Prince Harry, who was best man, seemed to spend some time checking out Pippa Middleton's arse. :laugh

It is expected to generate 10x its cost in revenue to the country.
with 20% VAT tax and tourist /Tv rights thair will be more to spend on good projects in B'ham.

No, I mean Harry. He was always out of place, didn't walk in line or in step. Always looking around like a Frat boy grinning and commenting on things to William. To be honest, I'd rather be Harry than William. He can play the mischievous younger brother role out of the "future-king" spotlight.

I suppose if you're going to have royalty, they may as well throw big parties for everyone to watch.

American "royalty" (hollywood) can't seem to get their act together enough to be any more entertaining than a talk show train wreck.

Okay, now that my wife DID ask me to watch the instant replay of this on DATELINE NBC last night I can make an intelligent comment. In one word, "impressive".

The only thing that I do not understand, and it really doesn't have anything to do with the wedding but I cannot seem to wrap my mind around it. I always thought that royalty was synonymous with power, not just wealth. As far as I can tell, and I hope to be corrected if I am wrong, no body in the royal family can utter the words "off with their heads" and anyone's head will roll. Having a royal title with no power just seems sort of silly with little distinction between royal and regal ... but I do like all the pomp and circumstance.

In theory, ultimate power still resides with the monarch; by convention, that power is wielded on behalf of the monarch by parliament. Usually that is done democratically, but from time to time the government will carry out actions 'by royal prerogative'. Ie: by using the ultimate power of the monarch with no recourse to democratic decision making by parliament.

Simple, huh?

What i thought was impressive was that Kate had no problem with Pippa wearing a dress like that. We all know that American woemen would never stand for their bridesmaids looking like that in their weddings. that is why they make them wear the ugliest dresses imagineable so that it makes the bride look better.

Good for Kate!!!
