View Full Version : Chrome Shifter Linkage

Everything on my bike is chromed except the following:

Shifter linkage rod
Rear brake pedal

I have HD forward controls on my 2000 XLC. When I went to the dealer to get the parts, he said you can only buy the individual parts for the '04 and up bikes. He wants me to buy the complete forward control package again for lots of $$$ and it pisses me off.

So, my questions are:

1. Does anyone know where I can get the individual parts (in chrome)?
2. Will the '04 parts fit? Why not?
3. Does anyone have these parts for sale (in chrome)?

Thanks

I don't know for sure, but here's something to think about. If I recall the "new" Sporty frame is about an inch longer than previous models. I don't know exactly where that inch is, but since the forward controls are mounted on the frame it'll probably make a difference. That being said, those linkages have a certain amount of adjustability built in so maybe it'll work. Why not just measure yours then stroll down to the dealer and measure a new one on the floor?

Can't you just send the parts out to be chromed? Couldn't end up being more than $50 - $75 for both. With the weather in NJ, you probably aren't doing too much riding.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the responses.

Speedy - That's my last resort but I'm still riding ;)

Flat - Could do that, too.

Quirk - The shifter connecting rod is what I need and mine has slight bends at both ends...hence no "Off-The-Shelf solution. The '04s have a straight shot. What I was really wondering was will the '04 brake pedal fit or did they change something. Dealer says no but I just wonder what the difference is.
