In June I went to the XL-list Rally in KC and on the way back the leather strap holding my saddle bag down broke. As I was traveling through the pouring rain with stuffed saddle bags the leather began to stretch to the point where the right bag was resting on top of my rear pipe (Straightshot HS). After a hundred or so miles like this I ended up with a funky spot on the pipe. It looked like oxidation but after trying simichrome, turtlewax chrome polish, mothers chrome polish, rubbing compound and a few others, I still couldn't get it off. Eventually I got pissed and broke out the dremel with a polishing bit and rouge. Yes, I proceeded to remove the chrome :doh . Okay, it was a stupid thing to do, but it was a last resort and I was insane with frustration. I called up V&H and told them my story figuring I'd be paying big bucks for a new heat shield. The lady who answered the phone said, "Well, retail on that is $89, you can have one for $40." It was at my house in three days. One could say their product is inferior quality and that was why I had a problem in the first place, but I'd say my problem was self-induced. I'm now a devoted fan of V&H customer service. Just wanted to share a positive experience. :tour
