Im ready to replace my bars but wanted to get some feedback on the different types of bars. I love the look of the clip-ons but am worried they might be too low. Clubmans look great too and the drag bars are far the most cost effective. What are you running and how do you like them?
I could just flip over my stock 883R bars. Heres a photo I found of a bike with flipped bars.

I LOVE the look of flipped bars - PLUS they are cheap (as in Free since you already have them) and everything will fit! :)

I like the looks of z bars (http://www.paulyaffeoriginals.com/pyo-catalog_pyostuff-zbars.htm), but haven't found a pic of them on a bike yet.

Wow, that pic brings back memories. It's Gene Brauninger on his XR1000 at Bonneville in 2001.
That bike has a 2.2 gal. tank so clearance is less of an issue. The 3.3 gal. tanks are larger and do cause clearance issues with control housings. Even regular drag bars won't work with stock risers and a 3.3 tank. My memory eludes me, but I think that upside down bars won't work with a 3.3 either. Of course, it depends on the particular bend to the bar.
Clubman bars or some other bend may work. It's a case by case situation. Sadly, there aren't many low slung 1" bars. Clip ons are a good option because they are able to move around on the fork tubes enough to get the clearance you need for the tank.
There is a Yahoo group for Cafe Sportsters. Many, many knowledgeable guys hang out there. They'd be a good source for low effort/cost options.

Thanks. The bars are flanders from Dennis Kirk. But somebody else here picked some up from elsewhere for about half the price. The seat is made by a guy selling on e-bay as cycleguy31.

Hey Kursed-man:I would suggest you look at the various bars offered at www.lickscycles (http://www.lickscycles/). They have several Z type bars and at great pricing too!
I wish I had went that route before I had some custom clubmans made from scratch. I'd also post several example pics but I can't figure out HOW? When you go there click on handlebars at the left margin. Most impressive are the black low profile Z-bar.

Kursed,
I have done a lot of research trying to find exactly what you are looking for. I basicially wanted something low, narrow and forward. Clip-on's were also too agressive for me (at lest until I can dump the old lady and put some rearsets on). I was referred to a site called bellacorse.com . They sell a lot of parts for bonnevilles, and luckily bonnevillies also 1" bars. I have put in an order for the Norman Hyde "M-Bar". The onlt bad part is these bars have no drilling or dimples on them, so I'll have to run the wires internally, which isn't so bad. I would check them out and see what you think.
BTW-He's out of stock at the moment, told me a few weeks before he could get mine out.

Yo EdM: check your e-mail I'm sending you pics of 3/4 inch Tommaselli's and for the hell of it a fiberglass seat replica of a 70's Suzuki GP racer.

Hey everyone, Ive decided to go with the clip-ons for a little more aggresive riding style and the wife will never get on the back. And I just ordered a rear set from chainsikle.
Moker, let me know if you still have that seat laying around.
Thanks everyone.
