I have a 04 883. I have adjusted the clutch to spec. A good 10 to 20 times. It still drags. It wants to go with the clutch pulled in when you try to start it. When it gets nice and hot it goes away. I took it to the dealer to have them tell me it is all good. It does it when it is cold. That does not sound right. Plus when you pull the clutch lever in you can feel like a pop half way in the pull. Is that right. Thanks

Could you have too much oil in your primary? I think the service manual warns that the clutch will not fully disengage if the primary is overfilled. Seems like that would go along with the fact that the drag goes away as the bike warms up too.

It is right where the manual says it sould be. I only had to put in 28oz instead of 32oz.

I dunno then (sorry), next idea please.....

Hey Joker, I have a 2004 1200 Roadster that does the same thing... If it's bone cold and you try to start it in gear with the clutch in, it wants to lurch a little. After it's warm, the situation goes away.
I kinda figured this was normal, and to eliminate the lurch I start it in neutral when it's cold. It's probably just a metal expansion/contraction thing going on. Unless yours is really bad, I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with RedRider. I have an 04 1200 Roadster as well and when it's cold it will jump a tad; when started in gear with the clutch pulled in. However, I am running 15W50 Mobil1 in the primary now and I have found things seem to work best at 40 ounces. I was getting too much noise at 32 although this was using HD primary lubricant. I too start mine in neutral when cold and then wait until I see the oil temp gauge move before riding. The Mobil1 has made the clutch action very nice and it shifts sweet.

Thanks for the help. It is not real bad. I guess I will just live with it.

I have to say that I liked the switch over to Mobil1 in the primary too. It's hard to say if it was a real or perceived change, but shifting seemed a lot smoother and quieter.
Hawk is the noise your hearing a whine? That usually indicates that the chain is a little too tight.
