What does the Owners Manual say?
I would do what the manual says maybe even sooner.
It is like a timing belt on a car.
The heat and weather can age it faster
Do you want be stuck somewhere?

Hard to say how long one will last for sure.
I got 72,000 out of the first one on my Eglide and it was taken out by rock damage.
You should get at least 50K under normal riding but if you do gravel roads or hot rod and do burn outs who knows.

If it breaks, you should have changed it the day before. :p
Sorry, I'll crawl back under my rock now.....

Mine went 35K, but I do a lot of gravel and dirt roads. YMMV.

What does the Owners Manual say?
I haven't looked, but I'll bet you a buck it says INSPECTand/or Replace
Fact is, some folks lose'em at 2500 miles...some never lose one...ever (50,000+)
Mine has 10K and shows NO signs of wear....
I would say that the time to replace it is when it looks worn and/or it cannot be adjusted to spec. Pretty simple! :)

funny this should come up.
mine broke this morning, 13months old, 30,000 km on the clock.
so i had to take the car for the first time.
not a single sign of damage anywhere on the belt (where a rock could of got caught)
i warmed up the bike, sat on it, pulled the clutch in, put in gear and bang.
didnt even get to let the clutch out.
i'm hoping to get it replaced under warranty, although i dont like my chances.
i dont think this is normal, but if they cant say i wont need a belt again next year, i'm thinking of going to a chain.
cheers

What's good is No Noise, No Oil, Very Low Maintenance. Unless You're off road a lot, what's not to like.

I don't wanna bust yer bubble but even the best O ring chains won't last much more than 20k, need regular maintenance and they go for around a buck an inch.
Stick with the belt.

The MoCo says they can last up to 100,000 miles.

Will,
here in OZ, belt replacement is over $450
chain replacement is under $150.
apparently i had the guys at the dealership running around to see if belts are replaced under waranty.
i did.
i was told, as long as there is no signs of belt damage (except for the break) i get 1 free belt under warranty.
meet them at home friday arvo for them to pick up the bike, and i picked up the bike on saturday lunch time, since i was up that way anyhow.
great service.
cheers

Mine went at 40,000 kms also found rear pulley worn , chrome coming off.
There are two things you need to check the pulley has no chrome coming off the teeth and two that the belt lumps are keeping the strap part off the pulley.
As every one has said they last from 40,00 km to 100,00 km. good luck
