Need new rocker covers and see a lot of bt's covers on ebay but not much for sporty. Anyone ever use them or see them on sporty. I know they put sporty covers on BT's so maybe they work the other way. Let me know. Mine is cracked and makes a heck of a mess when I ride. Rottenralph

After changing my bottom rocker gasket last night, and noticing that the stealer gave me a gasket kit for a 1340 BT, the bottom gasket (the one that goes on top of the cylinder head) is exactly the same for both engines...interchangeable. The stealer even confirmed that. But the mid and top covers are different. So as long as you get the complete kit of covers, bottom, mid and top for each cylinder, they should fit no-prob. The covers are the same size (surface area) just a little different shape.

I'm 99% confident the BT rocker covers work just fine on a Sporty, but keep in mind the BT's only have the lower and upper covers, no mids. I think the lower rockers have the same rocker shaft assemblies and everything. I may have alink to a website that shows them installed on a sportster, I'll check around.

the gasket kit I got for a 1340 BT has 6 gaskets in it. PArt number 17038-90. The bottom gasket, like I said, was the same as the sporty, the tom 2 were different...Why would they give 6 gaskets if you'd need 4?

G'day Ralph

yeah they fit...gets a bit tight around the frame on the rear one tho.

They are a 3 piece the same as a sporty.

Just make sure you get about 93 or later as the early ones didn't have head breathers.

I think the '84 to '99 1340's are three piece, but the 2000 and up 1450s are two piece designs. Either should work.

G'day Shu

Evo boxes will fit BUT Twin cam ones WON'T (well actually you can fit twn cam ones BUT ya gotta weld up the sporty heads to use the breather tracks.

Ahhhhh! Learned something new today:) I knew those BT's were a piece of crap ;) since they don't interchange with the Sporty, this proves it :)

Just another tit bit of info

All HD's (apart from those bloody Porsche engined things) from Evo on use the same rocker arms....

Big twins (Evo's and Twin Cams), sporties, buells (early and XB's), ALL OF 'EM.

If I change to a B.T. I will do it on the front box only. I can't imagine having the room in the back as tight as it is already. I saw a shovel and a pan on a bike. Why not a B.T. front with a sporty rear. Sounds cool to me. Never know till you try and I have tried everything else. I can't wait to see what it looks like. Thanks for the insight and keep up the good advice. This is a good solution to the broken top cover I have now.

I really like those Knucklehead conversions...but the $799 price tag really sucks!
