Take your time. Lay a thick blanket over the tank and front fender while you work.

I am also considering going with some Drag Bars come the spring when I can take my time and work on the bike when the temps warm up.
I have a 1200r and I think a 4.5" straight riser will work with a set of 28" Drag bars. My concerns are will I have to change the brake line and how much more I will have to lean forward when riding.
Which Sportster do you have?
What size and type of riser (straight, pullback, length)?
What style/size Drag Bars?
Thanks

I have an '05 883L and put on 4" straight risers with '03 1200 drag bars (27"). Fit is perfect for me, this set up barely clears the tank, but it was the look/feel I was after. I did not have to change any cables, although the brake line could be shortened in the future.

Thanksi have an 04 883 cust.the bars are 27" with a 4" pullback.i'm using my fact risers.i figure my reach will put my arms at full extent, wich i like. i'm 5' 6" if that helps.you will not have to change the brake lines. iwas told that the only thing i would have to do is get a turn signal relocation kit b/c my tank is 4.5 gal.the turnsignal reloc. kit p#68517-94A 28.95 the bars are p#56558-95 49.95. hope that helps bro.

Mine went on with very little hassle, and I LOVE the way it looks. HD part#56558-95. The hardest part was breaking the stock left grip loose. Once the left control was off, I put gloves on and twisted it back and forth until the adhesive bond broke. If you can't get it off, you can get one from your local HD dealer. If you're not going to reuse the grips, just leave it on the bar. I got around relocating the signals by pushing them all the way in towards the headlight and pulling the controls back a bit before tightening them all the way.
Hey chevypowered, neat mirror mounts! How did you accomplish that?

Thanks for all the repiles.
Hey Chevypowered, how did you mount your guages? On my 1200r they are mounted on top of the handlebar clamp. From the picture of your bike it looks like you mounted them differently?

It depends on how tall your Stock one are??
If your Risers aren't tall enough, your Bars will get into the Side of your Gas Tank!!!!! :yikes

They're mounted using the headlamp visor holes w/ 2" spacers. The gauge holes had to be reamed out a bit.

Prior to receiving your response I went to the garage and checked the headlight visor hoiles with a tape measure and they seemed a little big. I like that idea and I think I may do the same.
