I do not want this to become a bashing thread so please do not make it one.
We have got a great group of moderators here that try their best to keep us all on track. They, like myself, and everyone else are human though and sometimes make incorrect decisions. I know I have made a lot of bad decisions since XLF came online but I try to rectify them as soon as possible when I do.
If anyone has a complaint about any moderator or admin here please PM me or use the CONTACT US link to let me know. Do not let your frustration brew.
I can not monitor all threads and sometimes things will start going on that I am unaware of.
If you feel that an XLF moderator has posted something that is not right or outside the forum guidelines use the REPORT POST function to bring it to my attention and I will try my best to resolve the issue.

I am sure the report post has always been there, I just never knew about it. I didnt think I really needed it. There have been some complaints about a moderator that have been PM'ed to me. I talked to you about this moderator and I feel you did nothing. I will not and didnt send you the PM's cause I dont and wont give out anyones name. To be honest I deleted them a while ago. If they want to talk to you about it then they can do it. Bert you know which moderator I am talking about. You got rid of one good moderator but you keep the worst. I dont get it.

its not about moderating, its the attitude of a few ( or One) toward others.

I appreciate your opinion but like I said, I do not want this to become a bashing thread.
You may think that I did not do something about a complaint that you may sent me but I can assure you that this is not the case.
When I have a complaint against a moderator I will deal directly with them on the situation instead of airing it out in the public forum. It does not do that moderator or XLF any good. All this would accomplish is embarrass the moderator and set them up for a public crucifixion.
If your boss at work has a complaint about you does he or she pull you out in front of the whole company and all the customers to counsel you about it or does he or she do this with you one on one?
You do not know all that goes on in the background of running XLF. I have only removed one person from being a moderator, then that person was brought back on and then later decided to leave.
I can't make everyone happy and will not try.
If you do not want to provide me with a name and URL for something that you believe is wrong then I really can not be concerned about your complaints. I am unable to resolve problems if I don't have the facts and I will not play he said, she said.

I think Bert and his caretakers do a real good job keeping this place cool......with so many members there's bound to be some interpersonal conflicts .... but in the big picture, things look very good......jmho

Like I said I deleted all those messages awhile ago, and If I had them I still wouldnt send them. Its up to other members to send them to you.
I am glad to know that you are not concerned with a members complaint if they cant provide you will all the info that you want. Thanks.

I've never had a problem with any of the moderators, you've chosen an excellent team to monitor this site.

Does this mean there are adults watching what goes on here!?! Sorry, I didn't notice. I'll be more careful in the future.....

agreed but i do feel that most of the modertors are to old skool and need to be umm, modernized, to a moderate level of course.

I feel the Mods do a pretty good job. The colorful language does not worry them, it's just that some members can get too personal with the comments and need to be censured accordingly.:smoke

Moderating sounds like a thankless job to me.
I've thought they took the conservative route from time-to-time, but that's cool, that's what they've been directed to do.
Nothing but love for em.

What's a moderator? :roflblack
Really, has anyone had any problems that did anything about it? Seems that most just start threads telling us that they are done with the forum or they get into some pissing contest in another thread and it either fizzles out or they learn to live with each other. If the mods were that bad, Bert would already know.

As an ex-moderator (and for the record, I left the position of my own accord and in good standing), I've had an opportunity to see things from both sides of the fence. It makes for an interesting perspective, to say the least!

Modernized how? I'm not trying to sound snarky; telling mods what you think (in a constructive, or at least respectable tone) helps them improve. Heaven knows I turned to another mod or two for advice during my days as a Blue. One of the things to remember is that Mods (especially the section mods, shown in blue) are just enforcers. Our job wasn't to set policy, it was to uphold it. Talk to the mod him/herself. They'll usually tell you whether or not it's above their pay grade. If it is, then go up the ladder until you reach someone who says "yep, that's my decision".
Moderating sounds like a thankless job to me.

It is, often they do, and you're right. I had users complain to me before about things that I have censored that they felt should have been allowed. Some were polite about it, others were not. More than once I had to bite my tongue. As a mod (and thus, Bert's rep), I had to remember that I was speaking on behalf of the forum, not just myself. Which was probably a good thing, since I wanted to open up on a person or two.
There are two things that users have to remember when they disagree with a mod:
1. Mods are people too. They screw up and have bad days, just like everyone else.
2. Although this is a biker site, Bert and John have stated that they want it to remain a family-friendly site (barring the Super Off-Topic section). They've never tried to hide that fact. Anybody who signs on to this site should accept that fact or leave. This is a privately owned site; Bert tries to be democratic about it, but ultimately, it's his and John's call alone - well, actually it's Schnuki's. It's her name on the domain registration, but good luck getting her to side with you against Bert!
The easy way to deal with mods is to think like the opening lines of Lucy Liu's monologue from Kill Bill:
"As your leader, I encourage you from time to time, and always in a respectful manner, to question my logic. If you feel unconvinced a particular course of action I've decided is the wisest, tell me so; but allow me to convince you..."
Of course, then she goes on to the part about collecting f:censoring heads, but even Bert won't go that far (and Bert, if you ever do decide to go that far, please let me be a mod again!! :D).

Casper, good post. I wanted to say those things, but you did it in a much more respectful and eloquent way than I would have put it. That's why I ain't a mod! :smoke

i've been a mod at a couple other forums and i realize how tough it is.
yes, we all have bad days, yes we all say stupid things and sometimes we get called on it or censored.
sometimes the wrong people get censored or reprimanded, just like in real life.
but guess what -
this is the interweb...
if people have THAT much of a problem, perhaps they should leave the forum, turn off the computer and go outside and look around and take a break.
relax.

Hey, even though I have only been here a short time, I feel the management does a great job of keeping things civil. Think about it stereotypically and you could see where this place could degenerate into a worthless mess in a big hurry. I appreciate being able to have intelligent and meaningful conversations that allow us to share info and experiences without all the bashing that floods other forums of the same type. Thats the biggest reason I signed on as a team member.
Keep up the good work!

Having been a Moderator on what is most likely the worlds largest RC site I can identify with the problems of Moderating a site like this. The Moderators need to be a team and be in agreemant on how to handle things. I resigned from being a Moderator there because one particular Moderator would not do any moderating of his unruly friends. If us other Mods. edited or deleted posts he would undo it and restore them. Eventually he got busted but I would not go back to being a Mod.

casper, as an ex-mod myself ( also left in good standing) I concur
also as a mod I really didn't do much of anything. all I'd do is report it to the mod committee and put it to a vote, I never made a decision on my own but I will also say that way back then we had absolutely no trouble except the dealy with nightboy

Whatchu talkin bout Flatty?? You were trouble!!!:p
Nightboy and Hogpreacher are what makes this job fun to me. Trackin down the scum that are here to do nothing but start crap or take advantage of members. Like I said in another thread, if you have a problem or a question about something I did, feel free to PM me and I'll explain my reason for doing it.

I'm betting moderators here don't get paid for it. If not, then no matter how much someone, anyone, might not like the job "they" do, remember you're getting your moneys worth.;)
I may be the only one, but I appreciate the family friendly nature of this place Bert has created.
:clap
The only valid complaint my wife is left with is that I spend too much time here.:p

I must be missing a lot of drama going on. Dang! Some how I missed any problems with mods. Oh well.
All the times I've contacted the mods (there's been a few), I've thought they responded appropriately.

I was one of the early mods on the PGR site. We made it up as we went along. The rules weren't in place yet. No one new it would grow so big so fast. And with that growth, came all the problems.
I have to hand it to the mods here.
I was one of the members that came from the old site Bert had.
For the most part, they have done a great job.
I don't see what goes on behind the scenes like I did at PGR, but they have a thankless job.
I think this site is one of the best ones I've been on. Props to all...
