Me and some Buddies went for a ride to the Victory dealer in Austin,
Texas,we had a great ride getting there from Belton ,Texas. We rode some
Victory's ,(awesome bikes) ,then we went to another cycle store. We had
to endure lots of stop and go traffic ,about 72 degrees.
On two occasions after being shut off for a short time it was hard to
get it to fire, cranked fine, just hard to fire.I think I just need the
right combo of throttle or no throttle, choke or no choke. If it's set for
thirty minutes or so ,I choke it a little and it fires right off. When
it's cold in the am I choke it a lot, goose the throttle twice and it
fires right off.Has any body else experienced this ,what works for you.
Thanks,
Ben In Texas

hey
its possible you may be running to rich and slight flooding or you are getting vapor lock. usually vapor lock will subside after a little time sitting and then the engine will start up again. good luck

Do have on,off, reserve on the fuel petcock on yer 03? Or do you have an automatic valve. Hot engines will evaporate fuel in the carb. and those automatic valves don't let fuel in real fast till it's running. Sometimes there is a 'prime' position that bypasses the need for manifold vacuum in order for fuel to flow.

Don't know if this will be helpful, but my wife's 2001 883 had problems starting when it was hot too. It turned out that the solenoid on the carb was getting wiggy, and choking the dang thing off. Fixxed it by going to a local shop, and instead of replacing the solenoid, they told me that I should let them remove it... they did and she hasn't had starting problems since!

Mine did this the other day. It wasnt a very long ride and was only low 60's out. The bike sat for about 15 min 20 at the most. When i went to start it it would crank but not start. I think it sounded like the carb was sputtering a lil. Took 4 or 5 hits of the starter to start and when it did it was like it was haardly running, I had to give it a little throttle to get it up to the right rpm's. Whats this all about?

I checked my manual ,it says to crack the throttle about a quarter when it is warm,I've been doing this lately.
Prior to the episode I described earlier ,it really didn't matter what I did ,ie,gas,no gas, choke ,no choke,it would fire right off.
By the way ,it's been a month and it has never happened again?
good luck

Maddog,
I think he's talking about that POS solenoid/flapper assembly on the stock air breather.

So you are saying everytime I go to start it when its warm i need to twist the throttle a 1/4 of a turn? Is that twist before I hit the start button or as i am hiting the start button?
