Had Stage 1 done on my 2005 1200 Custom at the 1,000 mile service. I know, I know, I should have done it myself, but......
It really does make a difference. Better sound, better power at all ranges, and the engine seems to run smoother in wider ranges in all gears. The bike coughed a couple of times riding back from the dealer yesterday, but was fine today.
Question: I thought from going over it with service guy that Stage 1 was SE A/C, SEII slipons, and rejetting the carb with the Dynojet kit. When I got the bill yesterday, it showed charges for installing the SE A/C kit and SEII Slashdowns, but nothing about the carb. I asked a woman and guy in the service dept. and both came back saying that not all carbs needed new parts, the tech makes sure that the carb is set correctly for the mods, Stage 1 is high flow A/C and exhast, etc. They both sort of winked and said that carb mods are not legal and they need to be careful. Talked more with the woman in the parking lot on the way out and she said again that they need to be careful about discussing carb mods, and that work may be done that is not put in writing, but that all necessary work was done. The bike does seem to run good and is actally running a little cooler than before the mods. Anyone with a similar experience? What do you think? One obvious advantage of doing your own wrenching is that you know what is done to your bike.
