Dazed and confused...
10,000 mi. service for an 01 includes grease for the fork bearings.
Pretty straight forward, manual states pump grease into zerk fitting
until old grease oozes from top and bottom of forktube.
I pumped a 3 oz. cartrige into it and still no ooze....

Question...
How much should this forktube hold, and would the factory
possibly not have filled it properly from the get-go.
There is no indication of any leaks.

Just to verify that I did not have Cranial Gas,
I applied the same amount of grease to the wifes bike
and had the same results.

Both bikes are '01 883's.

it takes a fair bit of grease to fill up that cavity...

I prefer to take the top nut and clamp off and lower the forks and grease the bearings by hand where it needs it...

But the service way of fillin it up thru the nipple is fine....just takes a LOT the first time as the factory only prelubes the bearing itself

Say it ain't so..................... :frownone

You'll be cleaning grease from the bottom of the neck until the end of time.............

You've basically filled up the whole neck with grease. All you need is a bit of grease in each of the bearings (like it comes from the factory).

I eventually fixed the oozing problem by taking the forks out, cleaning all the goo, and relubed the bearings with some heavy-duty wheel bearing grease, and I'll never again fill the neck with grease....
