newberrykc 24th August 2005, 23:13 Bud Light mostly. When I am out, I drink black & tan....
Now I want a beer....
MusclePump 24th August 2005, 23:14 I don't like Mexico, but I like their beers. Corona and Sol with a tip higher to the latter
whispanic 24th August 2005, 23:15 Guinness is the beer of the gods...
BonRu 24th August 2005, 23:16 For every day stuff, I drink Miller Lite (it's what the boyfriend drinks so it's easier that way). I used to drink Coors Light; which I still love. For those special occasions, Fat Tire, Honey Brown and Zeigenbock (not to be confuse with Shiner Bok). :banana
I'm leaving now; for a beer and a massage!!!
Sportster Girl 24th August 2005, 23:17 I'll have a Natural Ice and buy you one!!
Who else is in Sporty Girls bar tonight? :shhhh
Just step right up to the bar, MrJimi!
I'm a bit of a beer ho. I'll do just about anything. ;) :roflblack
I like to try lotsa beers. I want to sample every beer brewed before I die.
Let's see, I'm with Tom, I like Yengling (sp?), Beck's lite, Michelob Ultra (my steady date right now), a Corona with lime like jhwkr, used to like Pearl (are they dead now?) I'll drink a trailer park Bud Lite when I'm with my redneck pals, used to like Dixie when I could find it, and a long time ago, when I was a struggling college student, I liked Shaffer's (sp?) when I was po'. I've even had a Pabst Blue freakin' Ribbon. ;)
I tried a micro brew in Missouri one time that had freakin' jalapeno's in it. It was mighty tasty, but they wouldn't let you take it across state lines..... :frownthre
Yep. What about y'all?
BonRu 24th August 2005, 23:20 Pearl's still alive here in Texas, SG. A friend of mine that owns a pub (it's nice to have friends that own pubs) ;) likes to drink it all the time.
xllent01 24th August 2005, 23:24 Guinness, Killians, Corona, Becks, Cabo Wabo Tequila
Labatts Blue, MooseHead, Molson's gotta love Canadian

Livin4Christ 24th August 2005, 23:30 I dont drink much beer, but when I do I like Sam Adams. Best beer I ever had: pony keg of Michelob in college with some teammates after season's end...

RedRider 25th August 2005, 00:02 Yuengling Black & Tan!
sportysrock 25th August 2005, 00:10 I like anything by Molson, Labatt's Blue, Guinness, Magic Hat #9 is my favorite right now, it's from Vermont. #9 has a slight apricot aftertaste in a Pale Ale. It is close to Anchor Steam Beer which is good too. Sam Adams is good from Boston, and Harpoon, from Boston and Vermont.
Well, gotta go. I think there's 9 #9's in the fridge calling me, but it could be more like 7.
merc 25th August 2005, 00:37 sportster girl--

Alasportster 25th August 2005, 00:50 Corona light, Sam Adams, Mich. light

I understand wanting to try all the different beers, but Pabst Blue Freakin Ribbin????/ come on
Yeah, I thought the same. I was born and raised spittin' distance from the Pabst brewery and I still wouldn't drink it. Sorry SG, but as long as YOU like it..... :o :roflblack
xena 25th August 2005, 01:09 Well, when we were kids standing on the corner asking someone to buy it for us, :shhhh I'd drink anything from schlitz and black label, to bud, michelob, rolling rock and haffenreffer (skunk piss).
Now that I'm older, wiser, and my tastes have drastically changed, I won't drink anything except Guinness, and maybe Killians or Sam Adams if thats all they have. I try to avoid pubs that don't have Guinness though. My friends say I'm a pita because of that but I like what I like. :)
flskevin 25th August 2005, 01:11 I had the best beer I've ever drank back in the mid 80's. I was staying in a small town in Belgium called Florenville. There was a the Orval monastery there that brewed Orval beer and it was sooooo damn good. Even room temp the berr was the best I ever tasted. I was busted at Heathrow coming home and they opened my suitcase and found 4 six-packs instead of my clothes. But they were cool and let me take them.
I have to order it special when I get the craving. :drinkbeer

Carbonsteel 25th August 2005, 01:43 I prefer homebrew myself.
Most commercial beers filter out some of the best parts of the beer.
I've actually gotten to the point now where I can't hardly stomach much else. Luckily, we have a really good brewpub here.
However, Corona, Killians, or Shiner will do in a pinch.
SamIam 25th August 2005, 01:49 fin du monde

Oh mighty Canadians!
Jeffytune 25th August 2005, 01:51 Were all a bit spoiled here in Oregon, we are the Microbrew capital of the country, so, at home Kokanee, anything Portland brewing makes, and when I'm out, I go to McMinnaman's brewpub, they Make there own on the premises.
Hammerhead stout or Cascade head ale are my all time favorites there.

planb 25th August 2005, 03:14 EJlab and Moker,
Some friends and I were lamenting here about not having a San Miguel's since the PI, so I got on the San Miguel website to inquire where the nearest distributor was from Corvallis...man, did they hook us up! They started having it delivered to two beer stores right here in town, and then sent me a ball cap and a nice polo shirt (with the San Miguel logo on it, of course)! I thought that was pretty good customer service...
And like JeffyTune mentioned, it's hard not to sample the numerous micro brews from around the state of Oregon!
I work in the Agricultural Research field, and our scientists here in Corvallis have developed three of the world's different types of hops over the years: The Cascade, The Willamette, and the Mt. Hood! I love the smell of hops...I swear I almost get a buzz off of going into the hops processing rooms! And I don't get a beer gut that way! :D

I'm not rich like these other fancy beer drinkers either, but I do demand my Busch Light in a bottle...placed in the freezer from the refrigerator for ten minutes...not eleven, not nine, but a digital timer set for ten minutes...just a hint of frost on that first sip, then it's ice cold for the remaining eleven ounces! Thanks for bringing up one of the best brands in the nation of blue collars! :D

But Busch Light is good at almost any temparature. I got used to drinking it warm so all of my buddies wouldnt drink it all for me. I usually only keep two or three in the fridge replace it when I get one for me. :laugh
blueglide88 25th August 2005, 04:21 Anybody in the midwest remember when Old Style was really Old Style? Before it was bought out by a few different brewers, and it dominated the Chicago market? Remember the cans, with all the little pictures, and everyone had a story on what they meant? Well, City Brewery in LaCrosse (the original Old Style brewery) still makes something real close. The beer they brew still uses the Kraeusening process. And they are still the ones with the Worlds Largest Six Pack.

PlanB,
What we get here stateside though is what they call "for export only" which has a lower alcohol content to meet the law requirements here. The original has, I think, 12%.

Some Guiness too, if it's on tap.
And if I'm running low on $$ at the TT Roadhouse, (http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/issues/2004-06-17/news/inferno.html) PBR in a can works great too.

Ole 25th August 2005, 13:41 Favorite when I can get it (or afford it): Nut Brown Ale (http://www.southshorebrewery.com/products/nutbrown.html) from South Shore Brewery (http://www.southshorebrewery.com) in Ashland, WI
Out at the local pubs: Newcastle (http://www.newcastlebrown.com/home_f.php?flash=yes) on tap and almost any Leinenkugel's (http://www.leinie.com/beers2.htm) brew.
My garage frige is always stocked with beer. I've always got Leinie's original (http://www.leinie.com/original2.htm) for myself and Honey Weiss (http://www.leinie.com/honey_weiss.htm) for the Mrs.
Ninety-nine percent of the time I've got one variation or another of other brews by Leinenkugel's (http://www.leinie.com/beers2.htm) (can't wait for the Octoberfest and Big Butt!)
What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one else drinks Busch Light????????????????

Jesus, it must be nice to be rich like all of you expensive beer drinkers. :D :D :D :D :D
And I got you there...Miller High Life Light...$10.49/30 pack by us. I always stock this so after the first 8-12 beers of the good stuff, when I reach the, "I don't give a shit just get me a beer while you're out there please." point then I can switch to the cheap shit. That way I don't waste the good stuff. Start the evening full of flavor (when I can appreciate and remember it) and end it cheaply when I don't care anymore.
Also, after mowing the lawn, there's nothing like guzzling an ice cold beer or two. I don't want to waste the good stuff on guzzling so I reach for a High Life Light.

I do sneak one every year or so...but, I do pay a price (over and above the purchase cost!) fro doing so.
What exactly is it in the beer that you're allergic to? Beer can be brewed in many different fashions with many different ingredients. If you can narrow it down to the one ingredient that you’re allergic to then you can enjoy beers of another flavor that don’t include that ingredient.
This all depends of course on what that ingredient is. If it’s actually alcohol that you’re allergic to then you’re screwed.
Never, never, NEVER give up on your quest for the perfect beer...in your case it would just be one that you can drink!

raysheen 25th August 2005, 14:08 Beer!?!?! You got my attention again Sportster Girl!! Between this and the food thread, I'm in heaven!
I love to brew and drink beer...I have five gallons each of a Hefewizen a Wit and an IPA (sort of...has a bit too much Munich malt to be a true IPA though) that I brewed a few months ago...got some hops growing up the side of my house that I plan on picking pretty soon (cascade, mt hood, and chinook)...as far as commercial beers I like:
any pale ale from the northwest US
Germany - hefewizens, grand cru, o-fest
Belgium - goldens, dubbles, triples, anything made by monks in an abbey :D
Ireland - ...well Guinness
England - prefer most of the English style stouts over a really dry Irish style (Guinness is the exception but they have the "twang") Old Peculiar, Old Speckled Hen
if I had to pick only one that is easy to find everywhere is would be Sierra Nevada Pale Ale because it's a great all around beer good for any season...good with a lot of different foods...etc, etc
not a big fan of the peat in the Scottish ales or the headache from budmichoors...the Asian beers don't really do it for me either...Mexico has got a good thing going with their two big brews but I don't drink them that often for no good reason...oh yeah...nothing skunked in a clear or green bottle...like some of the green bottle beer but it just doesn't keep the UV away from those poor hops :frownthre
Kath 25th August 2005, 14:21 I used to like beer A LOT! Heck my mom gave me my 1st one when I was like 11 I think because I was begging for a taste of hers. I only had 2 or 3 sips of it though and just pretended for an hour LOL I drank a lot of beer in my late teens and early 20's...well, a lot of other alcohol too....party girl and all ;)
I can't drink beer anymore though because my stomach, well, let's just say they don't agree with each other anymore. I do partake of I guess girly-type mixed drinks now and then though....Kahlua & Cream and Mudslides are my favorite.

if I had to pick only one that is easy to find everywhere is would be Sierra Nevada Pale Ale because it's a great all around beer good for any season...good with a lot of different foods...etc, etc
not a big fan of the peat in the Scottish ales or the headache from budmichoors...the Asian beers don't really do it for me either...Mexico has got a good thing going with their two big brews but I don't drink them that often for no good reason...oh yeah...nothing skunked in a clear or green bottle...like some of the green bottle beer but it just doesn't keep the UV away from those poor hops :frownthre

for just plain "Beer" I get Miller Lite or MGD Light. I'd be big as a house if I drank what I wanted whenever I wanted.
When I entertain or am being entertained, I Go for the "Good Stuff" Like Guinness, Bass, any Porter or Stout.
If I am alone and walk into a place for "a cold one", I look around...If I see 4 outta 5 folks at the bar have whatever is locally favored, say Old Mil in a 16 oz "Kinger" can, I get what He's having, just so's I don't stand out. "Do you have Anchor Steam in a bottle? It's the only beer I can tolerate." doesn't go over too well in the hills of western Bum!!!!.
Otherwise, I have no objection to any of the brands mentioned in the last coupla days...I would gladly enjoy any of these brews should anybody be in the Chicago area...:)

cabby58 26th August 2005, 02:24 I have really no favorite beer. Did a lot of PBR, OLY and Meister Brau as a teen ager. Drank alot of Old Style, Miller, and BUD. Switched to Rolling Rock for a while and went to the liquor store and picked out a six of any import or micro brew to try. Do mostly Bud Light now because that is what my friends drink, but we just had 2 new pubs open up around here one serves micros and imports and the other believe it or not sells what he calls vintage beers. These are Hamm's, Stroh's, PBR, Schlitz, and Falstaff. He has tons of old Hamms and vintage signs and lights even videos of old beer commercials, it is my new favorite place to go.

planb 26th August 2005, 19:07 Kegs an endangered species in Muncie, Ind.
The Associated Press
(Published: August 26, 2005)
MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Beer drinkers in this college town will have to settle for bottles or cans, as more than a dozen liquor stores have quit selling kegs.
The stores are hoping to ditch low profits from kegs, compared with beer sold by the case. Some say they also hope the move will help cut down on alcohol-related violence and accidents.
"The majority of students are very angry because they don't get why we're doing this," said Chris Johnson, manager of Muncie Liquor.
All six of the chain's stores have been no-keg zones since last weekend. At one store, a popular mural featuring a Ball State University Cardinal with a keg and the logo "Keg Headquarters" has been painted over.
Kegs are among the least profitable items a liquor store can sell, said Johnson, who estimated the gross profit on a $49.99 keg at $4.99. From that profit margin comes other costs, including refrigeration and damage caused by the cumbersome containers.
"A keg weighs 165 pounds. That's a lot of weight for my people to handle," said Johnson. "It's tough on our equipment, it's tearing up our coolers, and I no longer see the profitability of it."
But some beer drinkers - particularly those of college age - don't understand why the stores would quit selling a product that is sought-after, profitable or not.
"You tell kids at other schools that you go to Ball State, and now you're going to hear, 'You mean that school where you can't buy a keg?'" senior Aaron Shepard said.
Muncie Liquor isn't alone. Save-On Liquor has quit selling kegs at its six stores in Muncie, and Friendly Package also has joined in.
Kegs are still available, Friendly Package manager Mike Kilgore pointed out. But they may be difficult to find in Delaware County.
Last Saturday, Ball State senior Garen Garrison and his college buddies drove to Anderson to pick up a $76 keg.
Ole 26th August 2005, 19:13 No WAY would we have survived at UW-Stout in Menomonie, WI without our trusty keg parties. WTF?!

Vodka . . . Who would have thunk it?
1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The solvent dissolves the adhesive.
2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger- spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew.
3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.
4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.
5. Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, then blot dry.
6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.
7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth of healthy hair.
8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them.
9. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a Ziploc freezer bag, and freeze for a slushy, refreshable ice pack for aches, pain, or black eyes.
10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.
11. Make your own mouthwash by mixing nine tablespoons powered cinnamon with one cup vodka. Seal in an airtight container for two weeks. Strain through a coffee filter. Mix with warm water and rinse your mouth. Don't swallow.
12. Using a q-tip, apply vodka to a cold sore to help it dry out.
13. If a blister opens, pour vodka over the raw skin as a local anesthetic that also disinfects the exposed dermis.
14. To treat dandruff, mix one cup vodka with two teaspoons crushed rosemary, let sit for two days, strain through a coffee filter and massage into your scalp and let dry.
15. To treat an earache put a few drops of vodka in your ear. Let set for a few minutes. Then drain. The vodka will kill the bacteria that is causing pain in your ear.
16. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.
17. To cure foot odor, wash your feet with vodka.
18. Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting.
19. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove the urushiol oil from your skin.
20. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth. Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain.

Try looking for a german Hefewizen (a wheat beer made hazy mostly by the suspension of yeast) or a wit like hogaarden (a wheat beer made hazy by protein in the wheat itself) though this is actually a belgian style beer and not from germany

GWR 29th August 2005, 18:32 Something interesting I have observed, if you have a variety of cans of beer in a big container of ice water, the Mexican beer cans all sink to the bottom and all the others rise to the surface, anyone know why?

hmmm, I never did notice that ... if it happens it's simply because the mexican beer + beer can + headspack is more dense than the water while the other beer + can + headspace is less dense than water...it could just be that they fill the cans more (is it a "normal" size can)...or it could be that they use a special type of aluminum that floats :roflblack ...or it could be the density of the beer itself :D the temp of the beer to begin with may have played a roll in this too...like if one type of beer was hot and one was already cold

Huh. One time we were at the lake in the boat. I was in the boat, the boys floating around on rafts/tubes. "Toss us some beers!!"
So, I proceeded to toss some beers in glass bottles to 'em. I figured they'd float, and the boys could pick 'em up outta the water. Nope. I was wrong (for the first time in my life, I might add :p ) and those beers went down faster than a crack ho' needin' a fix.

radeschultz 29th September 2008, 01:59 This place just gets better and better :clap
As a house staple, we seem to go thru a lot of Henry Weinhards Blue Boar Ale here, it is nothing less then a poor mans Heineken.
I have sampled some real nice beers over at my daughters house recently, one called Euphorique, I know, sounds lame, but we were taste testing, and this one was real good. Then there was a homebrew that I really liked too.
I know the IPA's are well spoken of, but they just don't float my boat...
:drinkbeer
