View Full Version : Bought a new Deuce

I just bought a 2005 Softail Deuce. :clap :clap I've enjoyed my 2000 1200XLH tremendesly but I' going to have to sell it. Having 2 Harleys is too much. The Duece is a great bike, as is the Sporster.
I just wanted Bert and everyone here to know how much I've enjoyed this forum. I have been able to search for and receive a tremendous amount of information and suggestions. I wish there was something like this for Softails, but there isn't. I've searched and searched but there is no motorcycle forum as great as this one.
Thanks for all the information contained here. Ride safely.

Congrats on the new Ride!!! :smoke
Do what you can to keep the Sporty, I'm sure you'll miss it when it's gone.
That not withstanding, the damn things are expensive, understand not being able to stretch for two.
Our EGlide Classic is arriving in March, but the little lady is insisting on keeping the Sporty. (And not for her use).
She says that the Geezer is for vacations, she still wants to hang on the back of the "Hot Rod" for the local rides. (Damn...can I love her enough?) :D
Whatever your decision....drop in on us occasionally.
Ride Safe.

"A man has to have three bikes" -> famous saying started by IronMick.
If you keep the Sporty then you only need to get one more. Tell that to the gf. Yes, just 1 more and that is it! Just 1! One. That will be the end. Honest! If you tell her IronMick said so you are in for sure.

My riding buddy has a Deuce and we trade bikes on occassions and I must say it's a nice bike. Congratulations on the new scoot. IMHO, I'd keep the Sporty.

Good point but I do agree that the rear fender sucks ballzos. I do kinda like the stretched tank tho. Why didnt you go Deluxe bro? I know that you guys mostly ONLY like sportsters, but I love all things HD. My favorite big twins are the Dyna Wide Glide (cause its just way too f-in cool) and the Softail Deluxe. (Cause its also f-in cool!) :clap :tour:

Just joking around,I really don't like the rear finder and will probably change it before I am finished.
This is my second Sportster,I owned my first while stationed at Pearl Harbor between 67-69,Have owned two Flh's.My next will probably be an FXDL,probably as soon as March this year.
I kinda like the Harley line also, when I go to the dealer I feel sorta like a kid in a candy store.LOL

Those Bob-tail kits (in my opinion) look good on sporty's, you know the one that resembles the Softail rear fender. That's the next mod I'll do to mine. Only looks good though if you also lower the rear of the bike also, i.e. mine is a 74XLH , took off the 18" rear and put on a 16" , and stock '04 FXDL shocks from a friends bike he took off, barely enough clearence but it works and looks good, can't wait to get the fender kit now Mike

Mike. here's my 68 XLCH with a 'Bobbed' rear fender. Would look the same on your 74XLH. I originally mounted this in its full BT width, but wasn't happy with how wide the fender was on the bike. I like a narrow look. So thats what I did.... I cut out a couple inches down the full length of the fender, then welded the two halves back together. This allowed the fender to fit perfectly in between the original fender mounts. I then held clamped it to the mounts and once I got it positioned to the exact location i wanted it, I drilled the 4 mount holes. :D

Thanks for the pic, NICE lookin bike, and appreciate the tip on maybe havin to chop on the "bobbed" fender, but I'm thinkin that if I buy the fender kit for my year XL it should fit right, that's why I appreciate the tip, cause I too like the narrow look. I'll leave the FAT look to the guy's buyin the "planet hollywood" bikes. I'm also toyin with the idea of either a "King" tank or one of those quick-bob tanks without a dash. I gotta say that after almost 20 yrs of B.T.'s this is my first sporty, and I dont think I'll ever let it go, really cool piece. Matter of fact the wife and I have thinkin "new bike" this spring, and we have been lookin at FXDL as the one, but "we" gotta say the new 1200 custom might be the one. Sorry if I'm long winded......Mike

garyschmidt and you have the right idea... a BT Harley for two up riding can't be beat for those long hauls. More leg room for both the rider and passenger IMO. I'm building a BT hardtail now for two up riding for me and the missus...Course I will never give up my 74 XLCH...it is my youth wrapped up on two wheels....At 49 yrs of age, I still can't get over how it makes me feel 17 again everytime I kick-over that Ironhead and take it out riding. Having sold off many old bikes and cars...most times for no real reason....even the small amount of money that you receive....I've always regretted it....If you can keep the Sporties, then by all means do....Its great opening the garage and picking which ride you want to take out...not to mention having the ability to keep riding while one of them is being modified or repaired. As long as you're on two wheels with a big smile on your face, you'll get a big wave from me! How many joggers do you see smilin'? Enjoy your new scoot...when you get independently wealthy like a few on here, you can just add to your fleet and have a different one for every day of the week!

Hope you enjoy the new BT, that model certainly is very attractive. BTW it was, I believe, the first H-D that was designed on their then newly acquired CAID software, the sophisticated shapes show that the Industrial Designer using the software knows surface development and has a very good imagination.
However, only ONE bike? Why? One can never have enough bikes...gee, I'm down to 19 (high of 22 at once) and can HARDLEE(geddit?) hold up! HA! Ride safe....DFO :tour

As a matter of fact her sister will be coming to visit in April. Will be staying for about 4 or 5 months. She's never been on a Harley, (not too many of them in Chile). Are you interested in a date? :D

Oh, how tempting :D
But, somehow, I don't think the wife (we're only separated) would find it as entertaining as I (:wifemad)
