View Full Version : Saddlebags for your sportster
thejukes 3rd January 2005, 19:58 Has anyone purchased these saddlebags on e-bay? They have received great response. I have e-mailed a couple of people who have purchased them and are very happy with them.
LEATHER SADDLEBAGS HARLEY DAVIDSON SPORTSTER Item number: 4515769407 (he has other ones av.)
If you have purchased them, What do you think of them, how was the install and are they tall enough? One buyer said they upgraded to the 15" tall bags. That the 12" bags are actually more like 8" until you fill them and they go to 12".
Thanks
thejukes
bplinson 3rd January 2005, 21:15 I would not pay $350 for them.
thejukes 3rd January 2005, 21:45 they cost 174.00 - ck out his other auctions and u can get them for $174.00
mustangt5 3rd January 2005, 23:26 I bought a set of his bags. they are very nice but the top flap does not come over the edges and lets water in. but for the price i was very happy with them. when I recieved the bags I decided I liked a different style he offered and he exchanged them just had to pay for shipping.
Also the bags are tied togather with a leather strap I had to get a longer piece of leather to lower the bags.

zworld 4th January 2005, 01:28 Mustang, I like the bags on your bike in that pic. Are they throw overs? And do they fit without moving the turn signals? I like the look, not too big.
Lostwheel 4th January 2005, 21:28 I put a nice set on my 1200 from http://www.willieandmax.com . Not too bad on the price either, picked them up from a local bike shop for only $124.Pictures of them in the gallery.
bbradley 4th January 2005, 22:00 I have them and like them but do not pay 350 for them. I paid 174.
mustangt5 4th January 2005, 22:11 They are throw overs and the blinkers are in the factory holes

Thanks...

TechRep 5th January 2005, 02:27 Hey Guys ... check these out.
Tour Master Cruiser II Slant Saddlebag Medium size Dimensions: 9"H x 12"W x 6"D, 1296 Cubic In. Capacity
The bags detach from the throw over and have quick snap straps. This site is selling them for $117 with free shipping.
There is a set of these hanging at a HD dealer (for $135) in NY that I was looking at, and they don't look bad.
What do you think???
Has anyone used Tour Masters before?

bubbahog 5th January 2005, 04:04 The bike at the top of the page - on the page header graphic - has the Tour Master Slant bags.
Of course, you can't see them on that pic. Here's a link to another:
http://pic16.picturetrail.com/VOL665/2424771/5696469/73084673.jpg
The board members handle is Eagle101. He doesn't have any pics of the bike with the bags on it here on the new board, but there was some discussion about them on the old board - and I took part in it. You might search for it.
They look great, by the way. In fact, I liked his bike so much, I found some, and bought them. I've finally saved up the scratch, and am about to order the bag brackets and also a Mustang seat - like he has. Not too creative, but I really like the look.
Samueul 5th January 2005, 06:01 My buddy has those tour master bags on his v-star and they are really nice bags, but they are not leather (not that it's a big deal) and they just didn't look right on my 883. I ordered a set of "tear drop" style bages. The rectangular slant's just didn't look right to me.
SharkMDick 5th January 2005, 12:38 Has anyone bought these? Comments? Would like to see better pictures from different angles. I need saddlebags only for couple of weeks each year, normally I don't like to ride with them. These might be a low-cost version suitable for my needs.
TechRep 5th January 2005, 14:16 Any recommendations on the bag brackets?? Pros, cons, mounting???
Sorry for all the questions.... Just trying to tap into the "been there, done that" stuff.....
TechRep 6th January 2005, 01:39 So I'm at the dealers (NY), when the parts guy is messing with these chrome bag support brackets...
I say; "what do those fit?"
He says; "they fit the 04 Sportster on the floor, but I don't have any paper work on them, they were just hanging in the back"
We walked over to a Sporty and he showed me how they go on. He has all the hardware with them in a bag, so my next question was "how much?"
He just looks at me and says; "Ten bucks" .... :yikes
I looked at him and said: "sold!"
Well, at this point I walked around the corner and grabbed the bags I was looking at yesterday and sized them up on the Sporty with my new ten dollar brackets. They are the large ones, and the size is perfect. No relocation kit needed. So I told him "sold"
Then I asked him; "Do you have a nice guy discount on these bags?"
He says; "Ok, I'll give ya' 10%"
Man, I left that place whistling..... :clap
My local dealer is 10 minutes away. This dealer is an hour away, but the two of them are worlds apart!!
I’m thinking about mounting the bags to the supports so I can lose the fender flap…
Well, that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it….. :D
mustangt5 6th January 2005, 02:28 Techrep,
did the bag brackets you picked up happen to have a part #.
I didnt know they were making them for the 04-05s yet

That's the problem. There's no number on them. The parts guy said the same thing. He didn't know they had them for the 04 Sporty yet, but they fit and he could not ID the part with a number.
They fit on the shock bolt and the next fender bolt. Several bends in them and the fwd leg runs down the side of the shock spring. I can see if I can get a pic for you if it will help.
TechRep 6th January 2005, 03:05 Here's a pic.....
mikeLI_77 6th January 2005, 03:15 i was thinking about getting a pair of saddlebags to use for trips. does anyone know if there is any special type of saddlebag required for those quick release/lockable saddlebag hoders they sell?
bubbahog 6th January 2005, 04:46 The only company I've found who make brackets for '04 and '05 sportys is Krome Werks - and they ain't cheap. Sure wish I could find some for 10 bucks!

Jimbo999 6th January 2005, 16:28 As long as we're talkin' Bags here......Is there any kind of decent saddlebags that don't need all the hardware ????? Just toss 'em over the back, Tie 'em down and go.
Thx.
:)
thejukes 6th January 2005, 17:18 My friend has the Harley nylon ones and loves them esp for the price. They are the throw over type- easy on easy off -
He does not keep his on all the time. Like you he does not like to have them on the bike all the time. He gets a lot of stuff in his and they keep a great shape.
There is a pair on ebay right no - they are brand new and still have the tags.

Jimbo- try a local leather goods store. We have one here that sells throw-over leather saddled bags that are sized correctly for Sportsters for $119.00.

Right price....Thanks :D
Samueul 9th January 2005, 20:30 Okay, I just bought a pair of bags from jafrum.com. The bags are decent for the price, though they will need some sort of waterproof liner. Mine fit under my solo seat, and tied to the frame. To keep the bags from "flapping" I made an extra set of ties and tied to the lower shock mount right behing the bag. I left enough slack for suspension, and I cannot see anyway for the bags to interfere with the bike at all. Has anybody else done this? I may end up getting the supports just to be extra safe, but still don't see the reason for em with this setup???
cobra0478 9th January 2005, 21:53 I will try this,file may be to large.
This is a shot of the leatherlike bags on my 93 1200.
I prefer them over the throwovers.
Don
cobra0478 9th January 2005, 21:58 Here is how they look from the rear.
They are lockable, hardshell bags that attach in a couple minutes with two pins on each bag.

thesmithiz 9th January 2005, 21:59 I just bit it when I bought the bike and had the Sporster leather bags ordered. I know they are expensive but the look is cool and I was very worried about them getting caught in something at speed................. I think they look very slick on the bike and are very handy, my laptop and stuff fit for rides to work and you can fit a six pack (bottles) in each one for runs to the store!

I installed a set of these yesterday along with a set of Tourmaster bags. Everything fit great. The Tourmaster bags have a few features I really like. I'll post some pics when I get home today of just the brackets and the bags installed.
twinsporty 10th January 2005, 15:09 I'm with Cobra, I also have the leatherlyke bags. My criteria were waterproof and lockable which the leatherlyke are but a little cheaper than most. I would recommend them to anyone.
Gone 10th January 2005, 18:03 has anyone tried the Ghost bracket or Easy bracket I like the lock and the fact that they come off and leave very little evidence that that bags are mounted -- Wife bought me leather bags for xmas now I have to figure out how to mount them.
is there a place that sellls them for less than 149.oo??

Yea, I'd like to see them. What'd you do for fasteners? Do the brackets come with some? I've been too lazy to call Krome Werks...
Disregard that - I got off my a$$ and checked the website. I see that hardware is included. Geez. I gotta get a clue! :frownthre
wolfgang 14th January 2005, 19:04 I bought ghost brackets and mounted them to ammo cans rather than leather bags (I just posted one picture in the phot gallery and will try to post more this weekend). The brackets are well made, sturdy, and should do well. I can unbolt them from the ammo cans and use them with conventional bags, if I feel that's the way to go in the future. Of course, you have to move the turn signals back (at least on a 2002 model) and I paid $80.00 for the kit from the dealer. The brackets go on in about 10 seconds per side, and come off about the same, so it's a really good thing for those that want no hassle in getting back to a stripped down ride. And the locks work well. I think that it's a quality product, but do a web search for companies that sell them - I got mine for $140, including shipping.
BlackSkull883 14th January 2005, 20:45 I got a set off of ebay last summer for 70 bucks including shipping and the guy threw in a free matching fork bag. They're not Harley quality by any means but they serve the purpose and go on and off real quick. They are slanted leather throwovers with a tie down strap to the frame. I also punched two small holes in the bottom backside of each bag and ran a plastic zip tie through them and around the bottom of the shock to keep them from flapping - works perfect and I'm very happy with them!

Samueul 15th January 2005, 05:14 I have the same bags except mine are not slant, and I did the same exact thing? You don't think there's an issue with the zip tie? I haven't noticed any yet, but I still am bidding on some saddlebag brackets on ebay :)

Hey I think I saw your bike at the Lynnwood Cycle B@rn, parked next to mine a few weeks ago. Thats a real clever solution, I was impressed.
