Sportster Girl 4th September 2005, 18:42 OK, I'm dumb... what's the "Cafe" route??? BLT, fries, coke.... :p edman 4th September 2005, 18:49 OK, I'm dumb... what's the "Cafe" route??? Take a look at the Cafe' image thread (http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread.php?t=10225) Definition: A Cafe Racer is a style of bike popularized in London in the '50s where bikers wanted a fast, personalized and distinctive bike to travel from cafe to cafe. Many Cafe Racer bikes have distinctive small low-cut fairings and low club-man or clip-on bars. This ones my all time favorite. :clap http://www.earth2us.com/bike/gallery/sportsters/ES-1.jpg edman 4th September 2005, 18:58 OK, I'm dumb... what's the "Cafe" route??? Or… the route with the most coffee shops. Gromit 4th September 2005, 19:02 OK, I'm dumb... what's the "Cafe" route??? A 'Cafe Racer' was a type of bike, as has been said, popularised by British bikers in the late 50's early 60's. 'Cafe Racing' was the rather dubious pastime of putting a record on the jukebox, and racing to a pre-determined point (approx 2 miles) away from the Ace Cafe (http://www.ace-cafe-london.com/) in London and returning before the record had finished. Needless to say, it wasn't exactly the safest 'hobby' in the world - there's an iron-framed bridge not far up the road from the Ace which turns a somewhat difficult corner and was nicknamed the 'Shredder' for somewhat macabre reasons. :( Heady days...must have been amazing. Gromit 4th September 2005, 19:04 This ones my all time favorite. :clap http://www.earth2us.com/bike/gallery/sportsters/ES-1.jpg Oh my God... I WANT that bike!!!! Dogmann 4th September 2005, 19:55 Yes me too, but I have a 2004 roadster & the problem I am running into is that almost all the aftermarket parts companies for cafe type sportsters are for the 2003 & older bikes. So NO its not about fries , BLTs and coffee shops but BIKES- So has anyone gone the "CAFE" route? Thanks daesdaemar 4th September 2005, 20:51 Thanks guys and gals... I'm smarter now... :) Neat bikes, BTW... edman 4th September 2005, 21:04 Yes me too, but I have a 2004 roadster & the problem I am running into is that almost all the aftermarket parts companies for cafe type sportsters are for the 2003 & older bikes. So NO its not about fries , BLTs and coffee shops but BIKES- So has anyone gone the "CAFE" route? Thanks Storz (http://www.storzperf.com/) now makes rearsets for 04 and up. HD083-04 5 Spd., Std. Shift Using Low or High Pipe, '04-'05** $670.00 <-- ouch merc 4th September 2005, 21:30 that IS a pretty neat sportster xl1200r 5th September 2005, 15:40 I'm going Cafe with my '04. Already did exhaust, chin spolier, headlight fairing, some other goodies. I just wrapped my header pipe two days ago, and I'm waiting on a new set of mirrors and handlebars to finish the look (for now anyways). norm 5th September 2005, 22:07 Tried clubman bars but they were too much of a reach for me because I have a bad back, and clip-ons wouldn't work for the same reason. I've since put on some Flanders flat drag bars from Storz and they are perfect. Exhaust- tried the RB Racing 2-into-1 but it was way too loud. I've gone to the SuperTrapp 2-into-1 and it's just right with the Mikuni HSR-42 and SE A/C. Have been installing Storz rearsets for the past couple days. Quality is excellent, they are truly a work of art. Have put on Progressive 440's and Progressive fork springs. Working on a new set of wheels made of stock cast wheels powdercoated silver because I'm lazy and hate polishing the stockers. Got new fully-floating stainless rotors from Braking and will be using non-metallic brake pads by EBC. Just have to get some Metzeler tires and they'll be ready. Future plans are to customize a seat for more height. The legs are tighter as a gixxer with the stock [low seat] and rearsets. paris15 31st October 2005, 07:53 Hey Norm, You got any Pix? And, where did you get your Supertrapp from? Thanks, Dave no_chrome 9th November 2005, 23:43 Budget and time keeps this project slow. Next on the list is rear-sets and fenders. SportsterSpive 23rd November 2005, 08:24 Been a long time since I had time to stop in. Changed the intake and pipe since this picture and I am now running NRHS Hurricane intake and Supertrapp pipe. http://www.offroadrangers.com/sean/bike/bassbike2med.jpg --Sean TiBaal89 23rd November 2005, 08:29 Been a long time since I had time to stop in. Last I remember you were thinking you were going to have sell the bike. Glad it didn't come to that!!! :clap :tour For anyone not familiar with his bike, it was actually a featured motocycle in a magazine. Cool stuff! |
