Last ride for 04, new years eve, rode south down to the Kansas and Oklahoma border. Crossed the state line, turned around in the median, had to go around a tractor, so I decided to make it memorable, nailed it took it to 120 and backed off quickly. Bike felt fine at that speed, I was just really worried about a ticket. Not something I do all the time, just spur of the moment thing. :shhhh

I often do high speed runs, I love them. I've hit 118 on my '04 1200C with a windshield. It took a long time, and it was topped out. I surely could break 120 without the windshield. The tip on doing high speed runs is visibility. You must be able to see far down the road so that no surprises crop up. Just use your head, don't pass cars, keep it straight and you'll be fine. Now for anybody who is thinking of dumping on me for doing this, keep it to yourself. Personally, I'd like to hear from others what their top speed is.

I've only hit 90 on my Sportster. That's all the faster I wanted to go because my mirrors and other shit were starting to vibrate loose.

I've had it between 110 and about 118 several times but never over 120. Its starts getting a little tricky in that range. I'm usually running out of runway and nerve by then. The fun part is between 0 and 100. Its gets there real fast. :yikes

At best guess, I'd say 95-98 mph....the needle was bouncin a little. I'd do better w/ a fifth gear....but the bike is surprizingly smooth and stable, I was surprized. I generally don't do more than 70....oh yea it's a 74 XLH

I am with you blueglide. There is nothing wrong with high speed when on your bike or in your car or truck. I average at least 100-120 mph when I drive on the highway but only when it is safe to do so, i.e. good visability, familiar with the road, little traffic.

I have hit 112 on my 883, that is about as fast as she will go with my set up. Very smooth.

Test drove a XB9R when the 2004s were released. I hit 130 MPH on it quicker than I have ever made it to that speed and she was still pulling.

Been to 7000 rpm in top gear with the stock gearing on the sporty, was still pullin but not real hard by then..... around a genuine 140+

I chickened out as it was night time and I was only wearin shorts and T ....came to my senses and rolled off the throttle.. ;)

BUT my gixxer will get to 136 mph by the end of the drag strip and I havn't started pushin it yet :) and it's got another 2 gears to go by then..

I've only had my scoot up to 95 or so. I mostly ride city & country roads... I will definitely be finding the top speed that she'll do, but it's hard to find a straight road around my neck of the woods to give you the space & safety margin you need for doing this kind of monkey business. I will report back when I find the limit.

105 is all I've had the nerve/space to attain....no question she has more.....coming out of 4th at 100 tells me I could probably do 120 without too much of a problem.

One time over the summer I did a tad over 100mph with no windshield on my 883. She definitely had more to give, but I didn't feel comfortable retaining such high speeds for a long period.

The day after putting the S.C. pipes on up the thruway,no traffic at all, with ease went up to 110 and settled down to a comfortable 70 mph the rest of the way.Held it for about two miles.Next time I'm strapping a recorder on,might lead to a very interesting message on my answering machine! :D

I will usually entertain something over 100 when I get out on the interstate and I have a few miles to travel. I don't maintain it for very long, but each time I tend to go a couple miles an hour faster. I have had the needle at an indicated 125 or so...which translates to 120 or thereabouts. Talk about a rush man. :yikes

I'm jealous! It's hard to find many curves around here!

6200 rpms(rev limiter) in fifth which is 126 mph on 2000 with stock 883 gearing. And it'll get there in a hurry:) No it's not an 883:) I've been running right at 6100 rpms in fifth and had a Ninja 9 go by me at well over 150 and talk about a freaky feeling:0 I think I'm haulling #$% and the next thing I know something went by and made me look like I was a freaking snail:) I've had a sport bike up into the 135 to 140 range and it is nothing compared to trying to hang on to a Sportster at 120 mph.

I have an 04 1200R that I geared 883 for ease in the 2 up configuration. I have never really wanted to know how fast it will go but I can tell you that I have seen 115 registered and she was breathing good. I will however say that this bike is far more difficult to control, at that speed, when compared to my crotch rocket. The Harley is an "old school" beast and I do love to cruise that bike but hey, when you feel the need for speed, buy the proper tools and get set for a butt load of fun. Yup, the Beast is for cruisin and the Burner is for smokin...... Two different bikes, two completely different worlds. I happen to enjoy them both.........

Top speed was really high. The bike on gas gets scary above 110 cause its cutting the air barley accelerating to 120....but on the juice its rock solid as it rockets to 240 km/h....(145+)mph.

Remember You live in a country where they take driver training seriouly. Over here a drivers permit is only another beareucratic exercise. Trust me driving in Germany is a lot different than driving with the idiots on our roads.

Uhmm.. did a 125 Mph today on my XLH 1200 sportster evo '89. Could have gone faster, but I let go, since I wouldn't have been able to see how fast I went after hitting 125. There are no more numbers on my dial you see...

Tell ya one thing though, it's really tough trying to hang on to your bobber at those speeds! I had my nose on the speedo, and my feet on the passenger-pegs and still felt like the wind was trying to rip me off the bike :banadevi

I was truly amazed though. This is my first motorcycle, and I've only had it for 2 weeks now. I already noticed it went up to 80 Mph in a jiffy without a problem. But the mere seconds it needed to get to 125 was just amazing. I actually thought it wouldn't do more than 90 or so! I never thought my Sportster was really this Sporty! Jeehaw! :burnout

How did you get the needle to 125, I have had my 04 to 120 many times and at 120 indicated my GPS says I am doing 111 mph. When the GPS reads 126 (my max on the 04) the speedo still indicates 120 mph.

I really have no intention of pegging the Hayabusa on the street. I'm perfectly satisfied the rumors that they go beyond 160 mph are true. I've had the 1200R to an indicated 110+ mph and it was perfectly stable and predictable, just like the jap machinery.

my friend just enetered the 180 mph club on his stock '06 GSX-R1000. Not me, I have only been 75 so far, but I am just starting out, so give it time.

BTW, this is an old a$$ thread. Lokks like someone mighta used the search tool.

I've had mine up to 115 on the speedo which probably translates to about 110. It still had plenty of throttle.

The one thing that still surprises me is how fast the bike gets to speed. Sometimes I like to hammer on it down the on ramp to the highway or whatever. Look down once I am on the highway and see I am doing over 100. :D

I'll lose my license if I'm pulled over again for speeding.

Within the next year that is, I think. Not sure how it works.

Regardless, it'll be a while before I dare try 120 on my new Sporty. :frownone
