BTW - how do you insert a photo or a thumbnail instead of just a hyperlink?
starbuck 6th September 2005, 13:29 Sweet where did you buy the front cowling from? I've been looking for one with no luck.
xl1200r 6th September 2005, 17:03 both body colored peices on the front (headlight and chin spolier) are both HD items that can be ordered already painted from your dealer.
coonass 6th September 2005, 17:56 what pipe is that?
RideoutKSC 6th September 2005, 18:08 How much from the stealer for the headlight cowling and the lower spoiler?
Looks very stylish IMO.

Cool I like it. :D I use http://www.photobucket.com it's free and pretty easy.
xl1200r 6th September 2005, 21:02 The headlight was thing was $210 painted, the spoiler $200. The pipe is the new Supertrapp.
ncst8er 7th September 2005, 02:14 OK, I'll be the first to ask what type of rear shocks (noticed they were piggyback style) and do they offer adjustable compression/rebound?
Jeffytune 7th September 2005, 02:20 Looks really cool to me, but it just screems for a fork brace.
Just a thought.
marco883 7th September 2005, 02:23 What type of bars you going with?
Gary 7th September 2005, 02:46 OK, I'll be the first to ask what type of rear shocks (noticed they were piggyback style) and do they offer adjustable compression/rebound?Those look a lot like 1200S shocks. That would be a pre rubber mount model, but I imagine that the shocks are still available from your dealer. The part numbers for '03 1200S rear shocks are:
54552-96A (right)
54542-96A (left)
Gazza
SteveK 7th September 2005, 03:27 Looks good. How do you like the little fairing? Does it provide any protection or is mostly for looks. I bought the front spoiler for my bike and have been debating the Headlamp Visor.
txsporty 7th September 2005, 05:27 To post a pic!!
Right click your thumbnail pic and copy and paste it to the "Img" tags!! then change the "thumb" to "medium"!! :D
PM me if you have a problem!!!!
xl1200r 8th September 2005, 14:15 The shocks are in fact off of a 1200S. I scored them on eBay for $155 brand new in the box. Bert got his for about $25 less than I did, but if you can get them for $175 you're doing pretty good since they retail for $600. They do offer adjustability for preload, compression and rebound.
The visor does do a little for wind, mostly off your chest. I've found I don't need to hold on quite so tight on the highway.
The bars I'm getting are the Norman Hyde M-Bars. They will place the grips a little forward and below where the handlebar clamp is. I also oreded a set of bar-end mirrors I plan to mount upside down.
And thank you for reminding of the fork brace...A superbrace will be installed this winter.
rottenralph 8th September 2005, 14:33 Isn't the preload and compression all in the adjustment of the spring???? My progressives have 5 settings for the rebounds.
AZbiker 8th September 2005, 15:09 Preload has to do with the spring, the valving for compression and rebound damping is controlled in the body of the shock.
edman 8th September 2005, 23:09 Looks great! :clap
I can't wait to see a pic of those M-bars on the bike.
xl1200r 9th September 2005, 04:06 Edman,
I'm going insane waiting for those damned bars!!! They've been on backorder for weeks now. As of last week they hadn't even left England yet (I ordered from BellaCorse, so they have to get to him first).
BTW - I seem to remember your bike with barend mirrors mounted under the grips. I'm thinking of doing this so I orded the bar end mirrors off the same site. Do you have a picture of this or am I just imagining things???
xl1200r 9th September 2005, 15:06 GOOD NEWS!!! The new bars have been shipped, so they should be on shortly!
leo_frantic 11th September 2005, 01:06 The bike looks great ... but I went to this thread because I thought it said "Pornographic Update." :roflblack

edman 12th September 2005, 00:25 BTW my ace bars came with a wimpy 4mm hole tapped in the ends. To hold the mirrors on you might want to drill and tap a slightly larger hole. 1/4-20 worked for me.

My bars came unplugged, so there's not hole to tap. It looks like you ordered the same mirrors as me, which I think pieces of garbage - I'm pretty disappointed with them. I mean the don't even have convex glass. The biggest issue is that they won't adust so I can see anything. If they're mounted below all I can see is my motor, and if they're up all I can see is the road right behind my rear tire. I'll be ditching them A.S.A.P. The problem is I can't find another set of mirrors that I really like. I think I'm going to have to buy some grip endcaps to cover the holes we cut in them and them just use the stockers. If I rotate the turn signals all the way inward I think I can get them to mount undernieth. I really like those mirrors anyways.
So if people haven't gathered, I did install the M-bars yesterday. The job was terribly hard, and we ran the wiring inside the bars. I feel much more connected to the bike now, and taking hard corners feels much more natural. The riding position is even more aggressive than my bussies Buell! Only problem is I NEED rearsets now, but I have no idea what to do with the passanger pegs a the old lady still rides it. I'll be starting a new thread about this. I'll post pictures later today once I get home.
