View Full Version : New Handlebars Installed!
xl1200r 12th September 2005, 15:38 Here they are guys: Norman Hyde "M" Bars from www.bellacorse.com . Ran the wires internally, and ended up having to cut and splice as the connectors looked to be sealed units and we couldn't coax any of them out (good thing my friend loves doing electrical work!)
Riding position is awsome, but rearsets are going to be a must, just have to figure out passanger footpeg stuff as the misses would be very upset if she couldn't ride it anymore (I think I have a solution for this, but now I just need the $$$). Handleing is a little tighter since the bars are a good 3" shorter than the stockers. I feel much more "connected" to the machine - no more nervous feeling about really leaning her over. And I can still sit almost upright if I need to.
Okay, enough B.S., here's the pics:

BTW - For anyone looking to do this, skip the mirrors availible at Bella Corse - They're junk, don't adjust so you can see anything, and don't have concave glass.
Preacher 12th September 2005, 16:09 Had a chance to give them a good road test? I loved my Broomstick bars but riding any real distance caused pain in my wrists. The hand position on your new bars looks good, though, so I doubt you will have any issues.
Ken Man Do 12th September 2005, 16:12 It looks like the mirrors are mounted two different ways, depending on which pic I'm looking at. Am I on drugs?
Sportster Girl 12th September 2005, 16:16 Those look nice!
I'm gonna do a bar/riser mod this winter to get rid of the stock mini bucs, I hate 'em....
Good lookin' install! :clap
Jimbo999 12th September 2005, 16:25 Mirrors look reversed.....Like Wide End should point out ??????????
xl1200r 13th September 2005, 01:38 I wanted to keep the front of the bike looking narrow, so I turned the wide end inward - this made the percieved and physical width shorter. These mirrors will be going as soon as I can find suitable replacements, or until I get to my friends house to pick up my stock ones.
I have noticed some pain in my wrists, so I'm experimenting with different positions to try and stop minimize. So far I'm able to rest my elbows on my knees, but this won't be possiblt with the rearsets on, so I'll keep working on it.
marco883 13th September 2005, 03:16 I like it! Looks good! Hot tip about the bar end mirrors from Bella-Corse, I was thinking of ordering a set myself. My mirrors are worthless 3500-4000rpm's with my clip-ons. Keep us posted with good quality bar-ends. Rear-sets YA!

Swankster 13th September 2005, 05:20 So you don't make contact with the tank? Looks awfully close. One source for some really nice bar-end mirrors are from Joker machne (even in black).Somewhat costly though but well made.
I,d love to share pics of my new hand made bars but I don't know how to. I'll explain my deficiency.
I don't know how you go about giving a pic its own URL to download or insert image. Also is there a secret to downsizing your pics when downloading to a computer? So I may finally submit an avitar/signature.
Gary 13th September 2005, 05:25 You can use Microsoft paint to resize a picture. You can add a picture to a post as an attachment (that's the easiest way to do it). Check out the attachment buttons at the bottom of the post edit form. You can also create a gallery here and upload pics from your PC.

Jeffytune 13th September 2005, 05:41 Hi.
Please don't take this wrong, I like your bike. I just think that If you were to relocate the turn signals to the fron forks(Like mine) it would clean up the top a bit.

Just a thought.
xl1200r 14th September 2005, 00:10 No contact with tank - there's a good 2-3" of room there.

I am considering this, I also just added new bars and it is killing me to put the signals on there. They look so clean without them up there... Have to see what I can come up with... Nice lookin bikes to both of ya!
evade49 14th September 2005, 21:59 take the signals off all together
Swankster 14th September 2005, 22:55 Still having trouble posting pic as an attachment. Again how the Fck do you find and/or assign a URL which it constantly asks for? That seems to be the only thing holding me up. Help? I want to post my new bars...........
edman 14th September 2005, 23:45 Looks great! :clap

xl1200r 15th September 2005, 12:47 I justed picked up a new set of mirrors. I cannot find for the life of me a set of bar-ens that are the same shape as the ones I have that are any good. Everything is the small round mirror style, but everyone seems to want to make them out of all kinds of exoctic materials so they cost $100 a piece. So I stopped into a local bicycle shop and bought a set of mirrors there for $14 a peice. They're plastic instead of billet aluminum, but black is black, you know? There's a few ways I can mount them, so once I get them on I'll post an updated pic.
And the turnsignals are staying. I like up close the headlight like they are, but thanks for the input.
Swankster 3rd October 2005, 05:51 I've been trying to submit this pic for a while now, so I'll give it another shot.
I had these made then powder coated. They are quite comfy and move my hands forward around 4 in. with better hand angle. Still sit atop risers and I may lower but not sure as they seem to work fine at this juncture. Should I some day switch to a 2-1 pipe and rear sets, I will probably mount them lower.
Swankster 3rd October 2005, 16:26 Here's another view of the bars.
dodgenbullets 21st November 2005, 06:54 hello,i put a chin fairing on my vivid black 06 1200r.it looks very vunerable down there, also looks way cool, anyone have problems with rock chips?so far i got a lot of road tar and rubber from my front tire after some high speed playin.i was thinking of that clear stuff fromm 3M and cutting it to fit the spoiler but if no one is experiencing any chipping may skip it.im bidding on a 1/4 fairing but i like the looks of the visor better.
