I'd like to know your thoughts.

That video makes a lot of claims. I would like to understand where they get their numbers and if they are fact checked.
That being said, even if the claims are half right, it would be viable alternative to what we now eat. Very few people would even know the difference but lots of people would be freaked out by it.
I would try it to see how it tastes. It would be interesting to see if they could grow the best parts. Tenderloin for everyone!

It's certainly an interesting concept. I like the overall idea but, have concerns about quality control in the lab. But, I guess that it couldn't be any worse than the quality control in our meat packing plants and the current system. My guess is that it is going to happen no matter what. It's just too efficient and I would think that the cost would also be extremely competitive. Unless of course Monsanto gets a patent on it and jacks the price way up.
Would I actually eat it? I'd probably try it. Don't know if I would make it a prime ingredient in my diet.

Well, I would give it a try sounds kinda freaky, but it sounds like it would only be available as a ground meat, so there would still need the animal for the other stuff like steaks and roasts, I mean eating ground meat all the time would get old quick.

Does it taste good? I'd eat it if it does. My concern is that they'd struggle to make it taste good - it's the fat in meat that gives it the taste, and this will be pure protein. Okay, they'll add fat to it, but would it taste as good as the real thing?
Would stem cells taken from cattle, pigs and sheep taste like beef, pork and mutton? Or would it all taste the same?
And would it be considered kosher or halal? there's more than ethics involved here - there's religion too. ;)

Fing D U M. I love bloody meat raised naturally, even better if I kill it myself. There is no global climate crisis, at least not that we can affect. The only problem in the world with regards to the video, are there are too many mouths to feed. Let's go back to what nature intended, Natural Selection. Stop saving and curing everyone. Let some of these mildly retarded individuals, like the woman narrating the video, die off. Less mouths to feed, means fewer steers, more grass, better climate, everyone is happy. That's my angry rant for the week. Peace out
Ya! you can start the trend! anyone in your family wear glasses? any one on lipid control meds? any Endo diseases? Any chronic disease? you should take away all their aids and turn them loose unprotected from the ailments they carry.Oh, ya! all people born with or that develop problems should be sterilized, so they can't reproduce the problem. Or our bodies at the cellular level can't take this "super soup" it grows in and creates an auto immune disease that twist's our very DNA. You are what you eat, Does that mean we will all turn into Zombies? soulless mindless meat?

Here's a link to an environmental study concerning cultured meat. Industrial meat production's effects on the environment are well documented and supported. I agree we need to address overpopulation but adjusting our food production seems far more realistic as a solution.
Environmental Impacts of Cultured Meat Production
(http://www.new-harvest.org/img/files/tuomisto_teixiera_de_mattos_cultured_meat_lca_es_t _published.pdf)
Meat production is one of the major contributors to global environmental degradation. Currently, livestock raised for meat use 30% of global ice-free terrestrial land and 8% of global freshwater, while producing 18% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which is more than the global transportation sector.
Livestock production is also one of the main drivers of deforestation and degradation of wildlife habitats, and it contributes to the eutrophication of water ways. Globally, 34% of the GHG emissions related to livestock production are due to deforestation, 25% are methane emissions from enteric fermentation of ruminants, and 31% of the emissions are related to manure management.
It has been found that generally beef has the highest environmental impacts, whereas poultry has the lowest impacts when different species are compared.
Because of increasing population size and per capita meat consumption in the developing world, global meat consumption is expected to double between 1999 and 2050.
Such an increase will also double meat’s impacts on the environment unless more efficient meat production methods are adopted.

No, I would not...............unless all other forms of red meat had disappeared from the earth a week earlier. I have been known to go a week, but not often.
I hunt, I am used to getting blood on my hands. I live where deer and elk still sh!t in my front yard and bear toss my unopenable trash cans around.
It is the same as asking me if I would ride an electric Sportster. When all other means of transportation are gone, a week of walking and I'd ride a electric sportster, even if I had to put baseball cards in the spokes.

That's an entirely valid argument. While new jobs would be created as the industry grows, I doubt it would offset the losses to the factory farms. It would probably only hit the industrial production real hard as fast-food chains and other more mass-produced products switched over. The smaller ranchers probably wouldn't do to bad though because there would be a spike in demand for high-quality "animal" meat.

It took all of human history up until about 1970 to reach 3.5 billion people.
We doubled that (7 billion) in just 42 years.
Do you know what an exponential curve is?

That's a lot of steaks.
It's a shit-ton of feed, water, and waste being consumed and produced just to convert sunlight into protein.
It's also highly inefficient. For every 10 calories of feed, only one calorie gets turned into meat.
It's unsustainable now and will only become more-so as we move along the x-axis of time on the graph above.

I'll agree with Ireeman, Gator is good, tastes like chicken! LOL Not, but it is good. I like oysters, clams, lobster, crab legs, escargot, most fish, a little calamari. I'm not real big on squid or octopus, mussels are okay. Scallops wrapped with prosciutto are delicious.
I grew up in cattle country, and grass or hay raised cattle are better tasting than the grain, and growth hormone feed lot kind.
I don't eat beef, or do fast food joints, and haven't for many-many years. Once they crack your chest and re-plumb your ticker you change your eating habits.
My opinion, Graybeard

Well, since "uncles daddy" has shown me the light with some profound "scientific studies", I suppose I'll be eating tofu and broccoli all the rest of days. Luckily that won't be very long because all of the cow farts will burn up the ozone allowing the sun to burn us to an agonizing crisp.
I am down with some gator, and Sabrina is 100% right, animals are for consuming. Thank God I was born at the top of the food chain, have common sense, and don't believe everything I read by a bunch of PhD's.

There are a shit load of alternatives to getting meat (substututing for beef, ham and chicken) than growing atificial shit in a lab.
There are a zillion pesky freakin bugs that if ground and blended could fill the void and rid the country of them.
Over population of dogs cats, rats, etc. Eliminate the strays and starving.
Plenty of reptiles in the world. Most are harmful to humans anyway-so let's eat the little rascals.
As mentioned already-pleanty of fish. Now let's kill off the sharks and eat them before they eat us.

That would be an exceptional case. I was referring more towards the land capable of growing anything. The vast acres of monoculture we use to feed our cars and cows.
Are you shore those beef farms are capable of producing High quality arable foods ?

Quite a lot of energy (petroleum) goes into producing the grains we feed the animals. That only compounds the ultimate net energy result.
True, a good cut of protein only needs a quick burn on its surfaces to be safe. Our stomach acid denatures the protein just fine.
But I agree there is a lot of us and if were not overcrouded, it aint going to be long untill we are.

IMO it is just a progression of technology, man has been tampering with animals and food for ages, look at the dog sitting or laying by you, he/she is the offspring of man messing with wild dogs, that Pizza your chowing down probably has genetically modified tomatoes that pepperoni comes from genetically enhanced-modified cattle, those BBQ chicken wings sitting in the box is full of animals and products "improved" by man.
Even the turkey has been so modified to have a breast so big that the female turkeys have to artificially inseminated.
