I just got a reply from Mobil saying that Mobil 1 V-Twin is ok to use in engine AND transmission/clutch.
This is their direct quote;
"You can safely use the Mobil1 V-Twin oil in a wet clutch application. It
will not cause any clutch slippage."

Just thought i'd post this for those who are confused about what to run and can't find Amsoil, Redline etc. Mobil 1 V-Twin is easier to find for me and I like the idea of having one oil for both aplications.

Thats strange.
I just switched to Mobil 1 Vtwin in my engine and I asked the mobil bloke what they recommend in the tranny.
He looked it up and mobils advice is to use what HD recommends. Sport-trans.

I use Gold Cap in both no problems here. :D

This was posted before about fricition modifiers.

Go to Bob is the oil guy for all you want to know about oil. here is a link to Bob's VOA library. That's virgin oil analisys. It has the chemical makeup of a lot of oils. Mobil 1 15-50 is without a doubt one of the best oils you can buy.

The way I read is if your scoot uses the same oil in the engine and transmission then you can use it. If the transmission is seperate:-follow the manufacturer's recommendation for the type of fluid to be used in the transmission. This might be just a cover your a@@ statement but I'm still trying to decide myself what to do, I would like to use a synthetic but don't really want to go to a lighter weight oil.

Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 is recommended for four-cycle motorcycles that specify the use of a 20W-50 engine oil. It provides excellent performance in motorcycle engines that are designed with a common engine/transmission lubrication system or where the engine lubrication system is separate from the transmission system. In the case of the latter, follow the manufacturer's recommendation for the type of fluid to be used in the transmission.

For wet clutches some folks say to be careful with oils
tha contain Molybdenum, or “moly”, that is one difference between
some MC oils and auto oils. Most MC oils like Mobil1 MX4T (20w-50) ,
Amsoil MC as well as all HD oils and SportTrans fluid contain zero Moly.
That is why they say it safe for the primary with wet clutch.

Some other oils may or may not contain moly.

Of course I know of riders that use Mobil1 15w-50 (auto, gold cap)
in the trans with no problems either. While Mobil1 gold cap does
contain some moly it's a fairly low amount compared to other
brands and maybe that's why they have not had any problems.

Me?
Gold cap in engine, sometimes 20w-50 oils but always syn.
Sport trans in primary, it works for me and cost about the same as
the gold cap ~$5.

This was mentioned in another thread, but Donny Peterson of Heavy Duty Cycles and also a writer for American Iron..has a very interesting article on page 32, titled: Synthetic Oil Revisited. oil facts for your Harley
Opened my eyes to a couple things, esp. since I run an Ironhead...if ya can, check this article out. Very enlightening...

American Iron is the ONLY mag I subscribe to. I run it for 3yrs at a time cuz it's cheaper and I don't have the hassle of renewing each year.:smoke

ANY 20-50 weight motorcycle oil can be run in the tranny.

That mobil 1 v-twin is $7.55 a qt in Richmond. Might as well use Syn 3. Thanks for the post though. We have also already tried it with no problems!
Product is fine we just don't like the price!

YUP, it's all probably much ado about nothing.

Truth of the matter is I cannot REMEMBER the last time I saw a motor or trans that had damage which could be attributable to oil.

That said...

I changed Jenn's bike to Synth last night.

I put M1 20/50 in the oil tank.

I would up going with the Harley synth for the trans. Don't know why? Cause 2 bottles a year is seriously no big deal. It's not like I'm gonna need to stop and top it off on the road.

But Jenn and I using the same oil in our bike motors (Guzzi and Harley) is freakin' convenient from a top it off/carry 1 bottle on a trip standpoint.

So I did.
