I recently bought a helmet from moto-directusa on eBay, who is a huge seller of motorcycle helmets. Thought I would review the purchase for anyone looking for a new helmet at a good price.

I had been looking for a German style for quite a long time, actually since I got my bike. I didn't want to hit the freeway with anything other than a full face, so that's what I bought when I first got my bike. But I wanted something different, something with a new look for me to wear riding around town. At the first rally I went to I saw a bunch and thought they looked great, but they weren't DOT so I didn't get one. I hadn't been able to find a DOT German (for a decent price at least) until I looked on eBay. They had it in flat black or the shiney; I knew I'd be getting it beat up sooner than later, so I went with flat black. Seems a bit more classic to me, anyways.

So I bought it with their buy it now for $27.95, and after shipping it ended up being just under $43. Within 24 hours I had a shipment confirmation with UPS tracking. I thought "Cool!" Their listing said it would take four days to reach me. Well, unfortunately they ship UPS so on weekends, it ain't moving. It actually took six days since they don't even progress on Saturday. But I just got it, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's a little tight for my head even though I followed their sizing guide, but I'm assuming it's supposed to be because it's a half helmet and all and needs to stay in place. The one thing I don't like it how high it sits on my head (see picture) as I think on me it looks a bit goofy (go ahead, I can take it!), but I guess to make them DOT they have to have enough padding.

Anyways, I'd highly suggest these guys for helmet needs. They ship the helmet in its bag, they're great quality, packaged nicely in its box so it doesn't get jolted around or take any abuse when those overworked UPS guys throw it around, and it's much cheaper than elsewhere.

Overall I'm pleased; may look funny, but man it's fun to wear. I throw my vest on (all I've got on it is my HOG pin since I can't stitch leather and haven't taken it in anywhere for my American flag patch and HOG patch), my half helmet, shades, and I'm set!

The DOT German helmets are a little bigger than the others because of the shape of the helmet and how it has to be made to pass DOT inspection

I wanted to have some made that had the Chrome spike on the top but they can not do that and make it DOT approved

The one complaint I have heard from my customers is that the helmet likes to catch the wind and either strangle them or it makes it hard to keep your head level.

Make sure that one is really a DOT approved helmet, look for thick styrofoam padding 1/2" thicker or more and make sure the manufacture information is on a sticker under the lining.
There are a few companies out there selling a novelty version as DOT.

Let us know how you like riding in it.

It's actually DOT. And with that...

It's fun to ride in! A LOT more noise as compared to my full face, but that's expected. Sometimes it's kind of nice to hear the bike more. I've got good sunglasses so no problem with catching anything in the eye, and I feel pretty "free" wearing it. A lot easier to look when changing lanes, as well.

I've only been up to about 45mph with it on, as I mentioned I got it for "in city" riding, but it does feel like it catches a bit of wind. Not bad enough to have the "strangle" effect at that speed, but maybe if I were on the freeway. Overall, good helmet, glad I got it.

Haha... thanks, man! I went out again to get something at the store real quick and having not shaved in a few days, had my HD jacket on, gloves, big loud boots; I noticed more people kind of cowering away as I walked by. Pretty funny, actually. I also noticed a lot more acknowledgement than usual from other very "biker" looking guys.

All good fun :banana

A few words...
Wouldn't that be a bit dangerous? Or can you still hear enough of the other cars around you?

i wear them with no probs

it blocks out the wind racket, and lets you hear the other stuff around you.

I can hear fine with my ear plugs on, and I value my hearing...after flying in military turbo-prop powered cargo planes for 24 years, I wore ear plugs plus ear muffs...a lot of my friends are deaf now from not protecting those ol ears...once you damage those puppies, they don't regenerate or recover...and once you try them while riding, you'll notice less fatigue...and ringing in your ears!

I had a pair of silicone ones custom made for my ears and I love them! They are easy to put in and block a lot of noise. There are times when I cannot hear sirens far away, but when they come closer I can hear them.

Earplugs and half helmets are good combination!!
It will make for a more enjoyable ride, less fatigue!
The first time I tried earplugs I was amazed how much less fatigue I had at the end of the day.
I have no problems still hearing things, and besides it keeps me from having to listen to the girlfriend's blah blah blah when she is on the back.

Try a bunch of different generic earplugs and find the ones that are most comfortable. Many welding shops, industrial tool supply places have a good selection. Or if you work in heavy industry, you might just grab a couple extra packs out of your company's OSHA dictated box o' earplugs.

My experiance was first with squishy foam type, then rubber type connected on a string. :D
Hands down the rubber type is my preference both performance sound wise and ease of use/storage in the little container they came in.
Get ANY earplugs period to start wearing. Save your hearing and reduce fatigue. You will be convinced once you wear them this is the way to go!

I don't know...every time I put the ear plugs in I hear them damn little voices again....!!!

I wear a Bell Drifter, its kinda a cross between the old German style and our current Military kevlar style. I love the helmet and it gets a few looks. My only complaint is Bell put there logo sticker dead center fron and then clear coated over it.
I'll half to find something to either cover the sticker or take a ride up to Daytona and get somthin air brushed on the ol lid.....

Theres those voices again...!!

I just bought a Fulmer AF70 myself. I had been riding with the full face up until a couple weeks ago. I'm liking the half helmet much better. Much more aware of your surroundings due to less vision obstruction. This is the one I bought. http://i15.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/f0/29/63_12_sb.JPG

I bought the "six-pack" and they are real good.
You can still hear things..just kills that damn wind noise..Ask any audiologist what prolonged abuse by wind noise will do to your hearing...but ask SOON, cuz if ya wait too long..you won't be able to hear his reply.. :smoke

I bought some earplugs from a local pharmacy... way too big, but when they stay in, they work great.
