There an asymmetrical - rats, a washer that don't look right... - washer for the pedal to stay fairly locked in folded position. I have tried all combinations, that is all 4 sides against the kick start, AND above as well as under where the pedal engages the shaft. Anyone know how the darn thing is supposed to be fitted ? Does it require the bushing to ride high or flush ? Thanks !

If it's an aftermarket, it probably ain't made correctly. The bushing should be a little wider than the pedal boss, and the hole in the spring washer should be large enough for the bushing to go through it (the hole on most aftermarket spring washers is too small for the bushing to go through) . On most older H-D's I've worked on, in an effort to keep the pedal "tight", the PO's had tightened down the pedal bolt so tight that the kicker arm became deformed and a new stock length bushing wouldn't fit without spreading the kicker arm.

Yeah, I'm afraid that' what the PO did to this bolt, that is crank it down to no avail. The bushing looks mashed... It makes sense w/ your explanation, oh well...
Thanks anyhoot!
