Hi.
I've developed a new problem with my sporty...

2003, 883 Hugger. 2500 miles on it.

I've installed a new Tachometer two years ago and replaced my handgrips, just this past saturday. (New Years Day)

This morning, when riding into work, I noticed that my speedo is
acting up.

As I slow down to a stop, the indicator on my speedo will hang at 20 mph
until I come to a complete stop. Then it drops to one (1) mph.

If I recycle the key-switch from on to off and back to on again, it resets
and then acts normal until I take off and start riding, then it starts acting
up again by not returning to zero and hanging at 20 mph until I come to a
complete stop.

In addition, if I'm sitting still and I "rev" the engine, my speedo indicator will jump just a little. Not much, but it I've never seen it do this before.

Has anyone had this problem before?

I surely would appreciate any feedback on this.

Thanks!

StoneCold.

Common problem. My 1998 has done this as well as others on this forum. Two possibilities.
[1] the speedo sensor needs to be cleaned. The sensor is on the right side of the bike, down on top of the transmission case, about under your butt. It can "simply" [Ha!] be unscrewed, cleaned, and replaced. To "simply" unscrew it you will probably have to remove the exhaust and the sprocket cover.
[2] i was less lucky on my bike; the problem i eventually found was a loose wire [orange with white] on one side of a 12-wire connector in the headlite bucket. Now that was fun [ya, sure].

Stone...just clean the sensor...it's not nearly as hard to get at as ironmick. You don't have to pull off anything and you only need a ball end "L" shaped allen wrench.
