When's the cross-Canada tour, sponsorhips, endorsements deals, etc?
streetfighter1 22nd September 2005, 01:02 Congrats! It take alot of hard work and deication!
Narley 22nd September 2005, 03:09 Good for you! Congrats!
When's the cross-Canada tour, sponsorhips, endorsements deals, etc?
The cross country tour...arghhhh, does that mean more driving!!!!Dude this is Canada....my nearest race was 7 hours away! I think the race season was my cross country tour :)
The endorsements....hahahaa...people do love a winner...Edelbrock has made a nice gesture and I am going to approach UHAUL about a trailer program. Got a fat gift certificate from VANSON leathers towards a new suit...in case the diet doesnt work!
But the kind words from the XLforum memebers and your donated cash was the best offer yet. It means so much when you see people part with hard earned money ...it means they see value in what you are doing... even if they only partially aprreciate the huge effort and expense and frustration (because unless you have done a race circuit with no sponsers or pit crew, you couldnt fully appreciate it)...the donations help financially and sooth the frustrations becuase you get a nice feeling from the fact that people appreciate what you are trying to do....trust me , the year brings doubts and questioning of ones sanity!
You guys wouldnt give support to a crazy fool ...? would you? So I must be allright.
ANYWAYS thanks again and you can see my profile @ www.cmdra.com then go to the profiles section to the supergas class. It was a great year with a few trophies earned
And here is what i wanted to see this year...the champioship SUPERGAS TROPHY!

But here was the big surprise...when you get most trophies you usually know they are coming. But this year the Canadian motorcycle drag racing association (CMDRA) surprised me with the memorial JON ANDRES ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD...Wow what a surprise and honor to this first year SUPERGAS CLASS guy!

We did win some money, but you know the deal! Ya spend 20,000 to win 500 and so on. Ya just got to love what you're doing. Anyway don't sit idle, now you're the guy everyone will be gunnin for! Stay cool!

The last race.
Well you know how the ladder works. Qualified poor at 5th...and the ladder was cruel to me. Going into the last race I was tied for first with #12 and last years champ #1 was 40 points back in 3rd. I was confident I could beat these fellas but there was one guy that bothered me...he was no where on the points radar screen cause he didnt make too many races....In the last race we met I top qualified and he was 2nd only a thou behind...and he top qualified the race before that...he was good. Well my poor ladder position had me meeting him first round while #12 (the guy tied for first ) got a bye...so If I lost in the first round and he with the bye moved on ...IT WAS OVER.
After I won that first round -phew- It was wild....in a ladder of eliminations you or your nearest competitor often win or lose to other racers ,but that wasnt the case...it was the classic -me vs. him- in the semis to decide the overall champ. Whomever won was the champ and the finals round made no effect .
We lined up.....I cursed him under my breath with my usual montra...."who's
your daddy?...who's your daddy? your a machine...your the man..." Sad ,but that stuff works for me....
It was down to the wire...a win by 6 thousandths of a sec...but the exciting part was that it was too close to tell as we passed the line...so as we headed to the shut down we didnt know who won....His bike being the dedicated drag bike kind waited for a tow while I way exceeded the 10mph return road speed sign to go get my time slip to see who won.
As I sped along #12's tow vehicle and crew member was coming the opposite direction....I had my sheild on so he couldnt see my face....but the universal " arms up in the air shoulder shrug" sign language was understood...it was a WELL!!!! WHATS HAPPENED gesture. BTW I dont recommend both hands off the bars ...but I needed to know NOW.
He replied ...he understood the gesture and as we flew by each other he pointed at me...and gave me the thumbs up.......I hope I never forget that moment.
I had a moment...one of the those rushes of emotion associated with getting caught doin something bad....it was so strong I swelled with numerous feelings, and pulled over for a second....sadly I cut the emotions short( now wishing I hadnt) because I had family and friends waiting and a reputation to keep in tact...had to keep cool and act tough. Choked back the tears and wiped the single one that was too quick out of the gate to have stopped....in hindsight a good breakdown right there was needed and appropriate.
In the final race I was pumped thinking I want to end the season on a win , but in the staging lanes my seat bolt came loose ,we fixed it or so we thought...the launch proved we hadnt as the seat pan jerked back and left me concentrating on squezzing the seat with my thighs to keep it on the bike....A loss by 3 tenths....drag...but that could be where the sport got its name...
Predator 8th October 2005, 23:17 Good tale Narley. I'm sure you won't forget it in a hurry. Congrats again.:clap :clap :clap
