Today was one of those days you really never know how it’s gonna end. Had my heart set on replacing my OEM shocks with some Works Performance shocks I recently received (1/2” longer). Well, my jerry-rigged jack didn’t work (safety hazard). You should have seen me, screaming for a third arm, trying to balance 500lbs. with one hand and cranking on a scissors jack with the other all while trying to ratchet load-binders for stability. I stopped just in time to forgo nomination to the Darwin Awards. So I sat there all dejected and such, thinking of what to do next.
Well then, I decided that my next task was to “prepare” my carburetor for some fine tuning…and get familiar with the set-up while I was at it. All in preparation for the AC and new pipes install next weekend (would have done it this weekend and thought I had everything lined-up but then realized I didn’t have pilot jets and air filter prep…Doh!) Well anyway, all that crap came off just like the Sportster.org and Raysheen said it would (thanks). And installing all the aftermarket chrome hex-heads and top covers was a cinch. The only problem I had was with the replacement idle mixture screw…it was too long for the spring. So, I kept the old cross-cut screw in place and will search for either a longer spring or cut-down my replacement screw. All-in-all it was easy, instructions and XLForum notes were very helpful (thanks all). Oh yeah, the primary purpose of this undertaking was pulling the plug on the air/fuel mixture screw…well, here it is, in all it’s glory :banawala
...would have taken snaps of my carb, but it got too dark [I can't figer-out how to post thumbnails, so here's an URL if yer iterested]
