I probably won't have pics until the weekend. Joe wanted a little bike for commuting and short trips since he doesn't like doing that stuff on his big heavy beast, so we happened to pick up a little 2002 Buell Blast tonite for $1500. Its pretty cute LOL It has a V&H pipe on it, a rejet, K&N filter and some other odds and ends. Its black...the faster color I guess (according to Erik ;) )

Anyway, it'll be a fun little bike to play on I reckon and functional as a commuter for him and a spare for both us :)

Now we are a 3 bike family. The shed is going to be full. HA!

Kath - great. I get about 69 MPG on our 2002 Blast.
I got it with 168 miles on it this April - it just sat for 3 years.
I put over 1600 more before my wife took it for her own.

You can see by my photos that you can really change how they look.

Kath, you talk about a confidence builder...you're going to have "blast" with your "Blast"! Seriously...you may end up riding it more than your Intruder! If Joe gets off of it long enough for you to try it! Congrats, Lady! Keep adding to that fleet...time to go for that three car garage! :D

Thats good to know about the mpg. She was saying that she needs to fill up around 100 miles before hitting reserve. I was wondering if she's hammering it or something because even though it only has a 2.8 gal. tank, I was thinking it should get more miles than that. But, then again, it may have something to do with the rejet and V&H pipe...dunno.

Thanks! I think it WILL be a fun bike. She's taken really excellent care of it...complete maintenance records and such. I haven't ridden it yet, but Joe said he did notice the front brake is REALLY, um, quick/touchy? I wonder if thats just the way they all are or if we can adjust that. I'll have to do a little research. The only thing I don't like about it is its REALLY loud LOL We'll see how it goes for awhile, but if its too annoying, we'll have to look into sticking something a little quieter on there. :)

I notice you have an aftermarket seat....is that a Corbin? I'm thinking that's one thing we will probably change at some point. I can't imagine the stock seat will be comfortable for long, but who knows...maybe for commuting it will be fine. :)

Congradulations Kath,
That bike will be a Blast! The brakes are real good. Multi piston caliper I think. Rode a supposedly record holder Buell one time and I don't know what ya call it, but I grabbed some front brake and brought the rear tire at least three feet off the ground. A real Butt puckering experience. Bike was pretty fast also. I think the Blast is a little less violent. You should easily be able to adjust to the brakes though.

We start looking for gs at 120 miles and hit reserve around 140.

Yes, that is a Corbin seat. My wife likes the stock seat because the Corbin is a little wide and if she has to stand bowlegged, it is harder to reach the ground. She is 5-5.

It has the windshield, city-X handguards and Buell bags. I used to have the City-X handlebar which moved some of my weight forward, but my neck got sore after a few hours of looking "up".

Leave the brakes alone - just get used to doing a milder squeeze. maybe use 1 fewer fingers. The Blast brakes are what I miss the most on my Sporty. At my Riders Edge class, I was able to do the quick stop in 8 feet without screeching the tires. (The standard is 16 feet)

BLACK!

WooHoo! That's cool Kath. I think that may definately be a helper to get you comfy in the saddle again!!! And I bet you can still get that buzz in your saddle with just one jug. ;)

Kath, the bike is a 30in single piston 4 cycle engine. Very small and only creates around 34hp and 30Tq. The bike gets about 69 city and 72 Hwy. The 2006 has a 2.5 gallon tank. It looks like quite the fun bike and I've considered getting one a couple times just for the commute. I can't wait to see pictures. :D

Awesome Kath.

Ive been eye'n the Buells for a loooooong time. Contemplated goin that route VS the Sporty. I like to ride hard...come to think of so do you! But I digress...

1500 bucks for a prestine Blast is a great deal. I think youll have lots of fun on it too.

Your almost a Sporty owner again! Halfway anyways!

Adios

Is there a place online where you can get the city-x handgaurds and that windshield?

Congratulations Kath, You'll love the Blast. I had never been on one till the MSF course. Earl Smalls Harley gives the course on Blasts. What fun. The front break takes a little getting used to, after my Sportster, But after a couple of stops, You'll love that too. Problem is, it HAS brakes. Didn't realize how poor mine were till then. I'm going to update mine now. They had two seats, for different leg lengths, snapped on & off in minutes. Handles like its part of you, very easy to ride. Wish I could have brought one home. :) :)

If you are registered at badweatherbikers.com, Dave Stueve at the H-D header in Appleton gives a 10% discount. He put together a list of the parts I needed for the handguards and sent it to me. I got my windshield locally, but Dave could handle that as well.

Kath, What happened to your Sportster? I think I read you wrecked it (sometimes I don't pay attention to what I read) and that is why you picked up the Blast. Were you hurt? Were you insured?
I sure hope you get another Sport as though I am sure the Blast is fun I think you belong on a twin. I have enjoyed your comments.
Well glad you are able to write and ride.

Yeah, I totalled my 7 month old, beautiful Sporty near the end of May. I was out of commision for about 8 weeks with 3 cracked ribs, but I'm all healed now :) The insurance company paid blue book value for the bike, which ended up being close to what I owed on it. So, I picked up a used Honda Shadow ACE in July and rode it (well, tried to ;) ) for about 1,000 miles and realized I didn't like it and it wasn't helping me get over my "issues" and get my confidence back at all. It was just too wide and long for my comfort as far as handling. So I sold that a couple weeks ago and picked up a 2001 Suzuki Intruder VS800. Its built VERY similar to a Sporty....narrow, shorter wheelbase, light and flickable and torquey as all get out! ;)

Anyway, I'm doing much better on this bike and I'm having fun :D I will have another Sportster in the future (will go all out with a 1200 Custom eventually. Actually, the bike pictured with the Buell in this thread is my Intruder :)

Poor Girl,
Glad you survived and are doing well. My first wife got her license and got wrecked on her first day back in 1978. She would never ride after that and we had ridden together since I was 16 (now 61). I am happy you got on a bike and seems you have renewed your confidence.
My present bike is an 04 1200 Custom and think it is the best Harley I ever owned. I once had a Honda but couldn't get used to it. So it was back to Sportsters. I am considering a Road King but for the same reasons you stated I like the narrow feel along with that great torque. I am pretty much a purest and stay stock including pipes but now and then I want to go stage 1 or 2 but always seem to come back to keeping it pure and simple.
Well you keep riding and get that 1200 soon.
