Im planning on convertiong my 03' 883r to a 1200 using the Buell T-Storm heads and pistons with S.E. bolt on cams. The question that keeps coming up is the ignition system. I spoke with a local drag shop and the mechanic told me that I dont need to spend the money on the adjustable ignition system and just get the HD module for the 1200 that allows for more RPMs for about $120. The mechanic at the HD dealer told me that I need the SE pro adjustable ignition system with the 10 selectable curves for $260. I planned on using the $120 1200 module for the conversion but I am still unsure. Any advice would be great.
Thanks

I'm getting ready to do the 1200 conversion also, and I've been told that the $120.00 ignition is good enough!!!
The Stealer is just trying to make some Bucks!!! :D

Actually, in most cases the stock 883 ignition curve is fine and the stock rev limit is fine as well. In your case, I'm assuming since you are doing the Buell Thunderstorm Conversion that you are going to want to ring the r's up to about 6800 rpms to get the full bang for the buck of the conversion. TIP: Go to www.Nallinracing.com and look through the dyno room sheets and see what the majority of those guys were running for ignitions:) I think that'll tell you which one will work best for sure:)

I'm running with a Buell top end, cylinders, pistons and rings, Thunderstorm heads, SE .536 cams, and SE 6800 ignition module. The ignition module was around 110.00 shipped from Chicago HD. Runs like a champ with a little over 100 hp and 90 hp to the rear.

Ray,
Do you have part number 32978-98A or 32979-98A? The first one has the 1200 curve and the second one has the 883 curve.

My dealer told me that the stock iginition in my '04 1200 was fine and woulnd't need anything more until I stated getting real serious about power.
