Since they use directional tread patterning they are exceptionally good at wet water dispersion!

I've got the 880's don't know how the venoms could be better really like the Metzlers

Proably can't go wrong with the Metzlers, Avons or Pirellis, they're be way better than stock. Shinkos I can't comment on. Oh, my Venoms run as well in the rain as they do on dry pavement, they do suck big time in the snow! F.W.I.W.

I prefer whitewalls, so that being said I could only go with the Avons from that list. That aside, I would choose the Metzlers. As for me, I run the whitewall Dunlop 401's.

No one of them, I prefere Bridgestone BT45, they stick when itīs wet and cold, and thatīs often here in Norway.

Ran the ME880's for a few yrs - loved them.
Last year needed replacement
went with Avon Venom X. Amazing!
They're my new favorite tire.
Sticky as all hell. You should
shop around. Should be able
to find them for less than the Metz's.

+1 on the Avons, been running them for years, but shop around for a better price.

You've got a mix of different riding tires that can't be compared. from the Met 880s with steel belts deep tread and heavy sidewalls to a light sticky sport tire the Shinko. Decide what your purpose is and go with that type tire.Shinko 009s are a good class B strong high mileage tire like the 880. But not made in 16 or 19" size. The Venoms are a sticky lower mileage tire. I ride daily all year about 25,000 miles a year so the 880 appeal to me. Tires are like oil, all are good get what suits your riding style. For an example, why pay extra for a W rated tire when your top speed is 110?

Avon Venom's..
I love these tires, great in all conditions, dry, wet, even on steel grated bridges. Track very well, roll great from side to side, and they stick like glue, they don't grab paint lines or road snakes nearly as much as the stock Dung-slops. I'll gladly give up some mileage for corner confidence..
been running avons for over 10 yrs without a single hiccup!

For those with the Venoms, are you running stock size or one size wider (if applicable)?
sportsterpaul
29th February 2012, 14:14
If you're running a 19 on front some have squeezed a 110 on it, tweaked the fender mount to do it. If you want a few extra miles from your rear get the "V" rated tire stock size, it's about a 1/4" bigger and will get you a couple thousand more miles of road work for the couple of extra dollars.

Thanks Bruce
AMT is cheaper than Jake Wilson, Motorcycle Superstore and Tires Unlimited.
Good find.
What is the width of the stocks rims? And what is the widest tire that will fit?
Right now I have a 110-19 onn the front with a dyna rim and a 150-16 on the rear stock rim.
I was thinking 110 front and 160 rear.(if the rim is 3.5 and not 3.0)
But then again I could go back to the 21" spoked wheel with a 90/90 tire (one size fatter than stock)
I am not sure if one is not better than the other.

Take a look at Avon's web site, it gives the rim size for whatever tire you are looking at.
Years ago I had a Softail with a 130-16 and installed a Avon ( my first Avon ) 140-16 with no problems. I'm guessing the same here.
Thanks Bruce

I ran dunlops for a while, they were ok
I put avons on the wife's bike and they were better, but the sidewalls cracked. Avon replaced them and I have a set sitting in my garage.
Now her bike has Shinko tires. They are cheap, but ride really well
I am running Kenda Challengers on my bike, they work good too.
Point of this post, it's all about what you like. The cheaper, knock off tires, seem to work just as well as the fancy name brand ones. I like the Shinko better than the kenda, but both have exceeded my expectations.
It's similar to the syn3 vs mobile 1 vs amsoil, etc....debate. Just because something costs more doesn't make it worth the money. If you are like most riders, (not racing and tearing shit up all the time) any of the tires will work.

I agree that that an old fart like my that just putts along and maintains the speed limits will be just as happy with a cheopo tire than a real expensive one. Or happier because he still has some cash for gas in his wallet.
But on those rare occasions when my youth momentarily returns and I feel like tearing up some shit, I want tires under me that I can count on to grab the tar with some teeth and not let go. I don't want to be thinking about tires in the middle of a long fasr sweeping curve when my mind has to be as far ahead in the curve as I can see.

Merc, always remember one thing about tires. They are regulated by DOT. If the DOT stamp says, H,V,W,Y or whatever and have a A or B load rating, then you can be sure it will do what it says. The DOT checks records, do tests, ect to make sure you don't get a phoney. Can you imagine a few dozen blowout/wreaks at 100 mph on a supposed W rated tire. Can you say BankRupt? There's no reason to put anything other then an H tire on an HD.

VENOM's are H-rated for speeds up to 130 mph..
Tires have less rolling resistance due to advanced casing technology construction Construction also lets tire run cooler with higher mileage Tires run very quiet due to sequential tread pattern, Stable cornering and neutral handling with multi-arc tread contour

I've seen good reports on the Venoms on several other bike forums. And heck the 880, got to be the king pin tire of the last couple of decades.
Anyone got a report on the RT 66 tires or the Kruz?
my buddy just sold a set of Kruz for a Sportster yesterday for $61 and $66.
