Just got done watching Black Rain- with Michael Douglas, man I love that sportster that he races. Anyone got info on the year & model of the Sporty & what was done to it? :tour

It's the Sporty that was built when AMF was in charge. Not sure of the year - but I'm thinking 69 or 70.

I must be missing out on something because I have never heard of that movie. Then again I am not old enough to drink yet so go figure.

I've been checking out my DVD copy but can't get a clear view but looking at the bodywork (tank, tailpiece fairing) it looks like an XLCR ('77,'78 ish) but the primary chaincase looks like an early EVO model, Black Rain is an excellent film one of my favourites, did you know the actor who played Sato (the main bad guy)(Yusaku Matsuda) knew he had cancer but wanted to continue with the film knowing it would be aggravated in doing so (what a trouper)

well the movie came out in 89 so thats an evo year but its stiil early enough that it could be a late ironhead (just guessing , havnt seen it yet)

Just did a google and got onto a reiew and it sayd it's a 1200 with a poxy BMWesque screen.


I think I'll have ta get it out....

In searching for pictures of the bike, I stumbled on that quote about the film:

"Michael Douglas utilizza una Harley Davidson XR 1000 Café Racer, moto il cui motore è a quattro tempi. La scena è stata sonorizzata con il suono di un motore a due tempi."

If I understand this correctly, without actually translating it, it says he rides an XR1000 Cafe Racer?

I thought it was a 77-78 XLCR Cafe Racer.

The bike is only in the movie for a very short time. Also, just because the movie was made in 1989 doesn't necessarily mean the bike was from 89 or anywhere near there. It is however a very good flick..

Most of the bike scenes with the Sporty are in the beginning of the movie. Michael Douglas races a guy on some sportbike (can't remember which). Of course, Douglas wins. Douglas does a jump over an obsticle and the sportbike dude chickens out. Oh, then he does some burn outs to impress Andy Garcia. I guess it is setting the idea that Douglas is playing some badass, don't give a F#(@ what anyone thinks, cop. Never been a movie with a character like that before.
Some corny shit, but I liked the movie.
