One of the neatest looking bolt-on deals I've seen actually mounts them next to your brake calipers (they share a mounting bolt -can't remember the company though). Also, Stevo has customized the HD headlamp visor to have 2 spotlight above the headlight. Having said all this, I think there's nothing wrong with your idea. I don't what look your going for, but HD just sell a passing lamo setup (similar to the big bikes and touring bikes) for your XL. Good luck Jeffytune 4th October 2005, 04:25 Hi. Well, as par usual, Harley does make a aux. spot light kit for the Sportster, and they do work, But IMHO they are nothing short of Butt ugly. They do the job for country night riding, Then there are the 2 1/4 mini spots lights from Beacon, there 50watt modles, they can mount like the turn signals can. The only thing with these is that you need to add a relay so you don't overdraw the headlamp circuit. That, and there not DOT approved. bplinson 4th October 2005, 07:03 I have the fog lights from the MoCo that mount on the crash bar and they are POS. They do a great job of lighting up the area but after about 4 weeks the screws on the inside of the light vibrated loose and the lamp assembly fell out! Bikerdude 4th October 2005, 11:34 I installed a set of Hella FF50's on my front end. They are not exspensive and really throw light. At night, here in the country, I can finally see from ditch to ditch AND a hell of a ways in front of me. I feel like I can melt the retinas of the oncoming cars.. It's a thought......... :smoke Preacher 4th October 2005, 15:48 I installed a set of Hella FF50's on my front end. They are not exspensive and really throw light. I wound up lurking on ebay until I saw some ploice strobes off a dyna defender come along. The first set I got in on wound up getting a bit too expensive, but I picked up the next ones to come along. I saw a set over the winter go for $60. I squeezed some ajure spotlights in there this year and they light up the night really well. I keep telling myself that mounting to the lower tree makes me a bit less invisible..... http://xlforum.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2934&cat=500&ppuser=1513 Pictures are in my gallery. 2001 883 XLH Preacher 4th October 2005, 23:07 I wasn't a fan of the MoCo's Aux lights either. Those things stick out like Alfred E. Neuman's ears..... :roflblack merc 4th October 2005, 23:31 They look like the HD aux lights I have exept they stick out further. I agree with Preacher Gone 5th October 2005, 06:00 national cycle do some nice aux lights 4 the sporty AZbiker 5th October 2005, 06:30 Get some PIAA 510's with the 110W bulbs...you will be able to see like it's daylight, or use 'em to cook a chicken, lol. hondo 5th October 2005, 14:50 justdrew- What mounts and lights are on your bike. The reflector appears to match the headlight. sanman12002003 5th October 2005, 15:24 check out headwinds, they have a setup that mounts small bullet driving lights and turn signals. Ken Man Do 5th October 2005, 15:30 I mounted lights on my engine guard, and now I wouldn't want to ride without them. They make me more visible, PLUS they flood the left and right areas in front of me as I'm tooling down the road. I have them switched and wired to the battery. If I turn them off, the difference is dramatic, and I quickly turn them back on. They're awesome. A double safety home run. Bikerdude 5th October 2005, 15:43 Got a link? Pictures? I have been considering this as well. http://www.hella.com/produktion/HellaPortal/WebSite/Internet_usa/ProductsServices/Performance_Lighting/FF_Series/FF50/FF50.jsp I'll try and get a couple pics of them on the bike for ya.....anything for the family... :smoke Bikerdude 5th October 2005, 15:46 I mounted lights on my engine guard,..... What kind of lights u got on there KMD?? Ken Man Do 5th October 2005, 16:23 This is the embarrassing part. They are those inexpensive el cheapos from JC Whitney. The brackets are good quality though. All lights are off in these pics, though they look lit. http://users.adelphia.net/~aken75/images/Light 1.jpg http://users.adelphia.net/~aken75/images/Light 2.jpg http://users.adelphia.net/~aken75/images/Light 3.jpg Bikerdude 5th October 2005, 18:53 Hey..if those light works as u describe, who cares about the rest. I like that mount indeed, and I don't see a THING wrong with those lights either..Those Hella's are nothing special. Walmart sells lots of very similar lights as mine. Yea, Hella has a pretty good name for itself..but if the lights are good and bright, that's what I want. :smoke wreker 7th October 2005, 03:36 Thanks for the great info and links. What do I do about the extra draw on the electrical system? Mark_Bench 7th October 2005, 13:44 I have some Kuryakyn Silver bullets with either the 35 watt or the 50 Watt(depending on what and I doing) and I used a set of 39mm clamp on mounts for a regulat turn signal. and they work great!, I have the smaller ones as the turn signals....check out my gallery. if you want I think I still have an extra set lying around.... wreker 7th October 2005, 14:24 Mark your Sporty looks awesome. I love those handlebars and the cannon saddlebags. Where did you get the powder coating done on the trees and lowers and clamps? Chuck 9th October 2005, 14:11 Thanks for the great info and links. What do I do about the extra draw on the electrical system? I was wondering the same thing wreker. I think some lamps can over draw on your system, not sure though? Mark_Bench 9th October 2005, 14:21 Well I has a local shop do th epowdercoating on everything. the lower legs are actually painted cause I did not have the time to fully dissemble them. As for current draw, I am running 15 watt spot lamps int he Kuryakyn silverbullets and that is less draw than the stock running lamps, but the halogens are brighter than the 55 watt headlight. TheTick 28th October 2005, 18:38 This is the embarrassing part. They are those inexpensive el cheapos from JC Whitney. The brackets are good quality though. All lights are off in these pics, though they look lit. I picked the same ones up around May. Lasted almost two weeks. When I got home from a 110mph jaunt, one of the lenses and bulbs were missing. The next day during a lunch ride, I heard the other lense hit the ground. JC Whitney has an awesome return policy... so I was tempted to return what was left :D I replaced them with PIAA dichroic spot lamps. Mucho-expensive, but sweet looking and much more rugged. I used the same cheapo clamps and have had them mounted to my frame's down tube for nearly four or five months with out any trouble. A small amount of light is blocked as it hits the front axle. I bought a Lindby recently (after getting my leg pinned last month) and moved them there. I'll move them back to the down tube once I get my balls back :roflblack Moker 28th October 2005, 18:57 broncodog has a really nice setup. they're pretty small ovalish type lights that mount on his lindby bar. hard to notice them. i can't find a pic of his bike with them on. looks a little like this ================================== || ------------------- | | ------------------- cantolina 28th October 2005, 19:00 broncodog has a really nice setup. they're pretty small ovalish type lights that mount on his lindby bar. hard to notice them. i can't find a pic of his bike with them on. looks a little like this ================================== || ------------------- | | ------------------- Kinda looks like mine....minus the lindby... :) http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/565/Roxy_Oct.jpg Moker 28th October 2005, 19:29 yup, zactly Desertfox 28th October 2005, 22:24 I have auxillary lights ffrom the mo co on mine. TheTick 29th October 2005, 00:44 Looks better without the engine guard :frownone I shouldn't have tossed out the box. djs 29th October 2005, 23:49 just put lights on my bike (will get pics to post soon). $15 lights and $10 wire harness from walmart. (i would definately recommend a wiring harness, mine works off of a relay, has a nice enclosed switch, thick wires with a fuse and made it easy to install) to mount it on the bike i went to home depot and got 1 1/2 conduit hangers ($1.10 for 2) and painted them black. Used 1 1/4 to 1 1/4 rubber pvc pipe connecter ( $5) to mount between the forks and the clamp. Light attaches right to the clamp. djs 30th October 2005, 00:13 just put lights on my bike (will get pics to post soon). $15 lights and $10 wire harness from walmart.
