View Full Version : DRAG BARS
mountbkr 9th January 2005, 00:15 HAS ANYONE INSTALLED DRAG BARS WITHOUT PUTTING HIGHER RISERS ON?
I DON'T SEE WHY YOU WOULD NEED TO PUT HIGHER RISERS ON?? 1200R
HOW CAN IT POSSIBLE HIT THE TANK?
txsporty 9th January 2005, 00:27 If you don't rise Standard Drag(bent) bars the Switch Housing will hit the Tank!!! :yikes
If you use Broom Handle type(straight) Bars they will miss the Tank!! :D

chevypowered 9th January 2005, 04:36 First stop yelling , and then I'll tell you
xllent01 9th January 2005, 05:10 Here are some bars from Wild1inc they are the same
bars i run on my scoot except mine are the 8 inch rise.
http://www.wild1inc.com/wo500.html
These bars are super high quality, 1-1/4 thick
and dimpled on the ends to hide the wiring.
FYI- dont ever buy bars from a stealer, they are
WAY OVER PRICED you can buy bars from the
aftermarket for over 1/3 less and 3 times the quality. :yikes
mountbkr 9th January 2005, 12:50 Yea I think the stealers are way over priced. $49 for a for chrome pipe no bends theanks for the links' :smoke

Over priced INSANELY!! I got my 9.5"-chrome-1.25" dia White Bros in '99 for $107 at an Indie grand oprning. I saw what looked like the same pullbacks in the '04 catalogue for $459.95 ! My bars are 3 yrs old and still look immaculate.

you're kidding!!! That much? Jeeze...
On second thought, I'll have to acknowledge. I bought 6" Deuce style straight risers for $18. I saw the same crap in H-D catalog for like $128 or something. Only they give you the mounting bolts...big deal...

Maddog is talking about the T-bars with the built in riser,
yes they are $ 459.00. The risers you are talking about
for $18.00 dollars are the risers that sit on top of the
tripple trees that hold handle bars in place.
The WILD1 Chubbys are $149.95 for the 8" chrome 1.25 dia
bars, and they pullback 11.5 inches and are 30.5" wide.
txsporty 9th January 2005, 20:35 Hell I paid $40.00 for the Bars and I think about $50.00 for the Risers!!! :D

Top Clamp got off eBay for $5.00!!! :D
toadster 10th January 2005, 00:57 Txsporty, why did'nt you use the stock clamp ?
txsporty 10th January 2005, 04:12 toadster
Stock Clamp is the 100 Anniv. and is powder coated black as are the 2" risers that came stock on my Scoot, wanted Chrome!!! :D

BlackSkull883 10th January 2005, 16:01 Springer - awesome looking sporty but I have one question... where is your speedo?! :yikes
Also along these lines, is there any way to flip a speedo around from an 04 883 standard and put it in a bracket that points it down towards the tank like on the customs?
toadster 10th January 2005, 21:53 I was thinking of doing the same thing... :D

GRAYFEATHER 16th January 2005, 13:17 Thay do look good them drag Bars.
Grayfeather :clap
Dogmann 17th January 2005, 16:41 No risers?
BlackSkull883 17th January 2005, 16:47 I was wondering about that too... those bars look cool, but I'm thinking that with my short arms I would be leaning way too far forward to grab 'em. I would want at least 4" risers on mine, but then the speedo would be up too high to see the road good from what I can tell.
xena 17th January 2005, 17:44 ... I would want at least 4" risers on mine, but then the speedo would be up too high to see the road good from what I can tell.
No worries BlackSkull. You can mount your speedo on the headlight brow. The holes line up perfectly, all you need is some hollow standoffs and long bolts. Done.
BlackSkull883 17th January 2005, 17:47 Xena, that sounds pretty interesting. Do you have yours set up like that? If so, I'd appreciate a pic showing close up how it looks.
Thanks!
xena 17th January 2005, 17:52 Yes I do. I actually posted pics in another thread for some other guys who wanted to see. To do the mod I used aluminum tubing and 2 1/2" or 3" stainless steel allen bolts that fit nice inside the tubing. Heres a pic.
Lets see if this link works, if not I'll come back and edit again.
http://www.xlforum.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=733
BlackSkull883 17th January 2005, 18:18 Very cool. Is that as low as you can go with the speedo or will it fit closer to the eyebrow? :smoke
xena 17th January 2005, 19:29 The tubing could probably be cut down another 1/2" or so and this would drop the gauges down a little closer to the brow. This pic will give you a better view. I didn't want to drop them too far because I'm short and didn't want trouble trying to peek over the risers to see the entire faces of my gauges. http://www.xlforum.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=735
At some point I hope to find some chrome tubes that the allen bolts will comfortably fit into. Hope this helps you.
txsporty 17th January 2005, 23:21 Here's a pic of what I've Done.

E00i3 18th January 2005, 05:49 They are sitting on the stock risers... They are pretty comfortable for me, but I am also thinking of getting mini apes or going back to the stock bars to change the look...
Ed
jtwax 21st January 2005, 17:22 Hell I paid $40.00 for the Bars and I think about $50.00 for the Risers!!! :D
What is the width on those bars? Also, did you have to extend any cables for this mod or were the stock ones long enough?
Thanks!

HotRodSporty

JWA 28th January 2005, 19:25 Just curious about where you mount all the electrical connectors and wiring that lives behind the riser cover when you go with different, shorter risers?
mountbkr 29th January 2005, 02:48 Just installed these bars ..... :smoke
