Harley, the guy putting parts in a box or both.
I bought a windscreen for my '05 XL 883 Low with detachable hardware kit.
Well screw me, the windscreen is thrown in a plastic bag and looks as if it was dragged across the warehouse floor before it was put in a box loose. Needless to say the god dam thing is all scuffed up. As for the hardware– who
knows what bike it was made for. The clamps that are suppose to go on the top portion of the fork are too small in diameter. The fork would have to be about the size of the frame. This is the second time parts for Harley accessories don't work. The last time the nuts were the wrong size for the bolts. How stupid can they be.

My guess is that it's the Dealer that screwed you.
I used to work for an appliance retailer who would have us reboxing things to look new, things like floor models, or customer returns. Sounds like your Dealer just did a bad job of trying to pull the wool.
Thank God I'm not in that line of work anymore, Hell No!
Just take it back and tell them "Nice try guy's, wanna get me a new one this time?"

I ordered a chrome swingarm, & although the box was still sealed when I opened it, I thought it was a used one they sent me at first! Also thrown in a hard plastic bag, arrived all scuffed up & RUSTED... Seriously looked like that boat hit some rough seas. Sent the swingarm back to it's maker, & decided to keep the standard black one instead of waiting another three weeks for a new one.. (Wonder if they've ever heard of polystyrene?)

YOU KNOW THAT THIS IS THE PROBLEM BUYING SOMETHING SIGHT UNSEEN.. IT DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT BUT THAT IS THE CHANCE YOU TAKE WHEN YOU BUY FROM SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE GOOD OLD HD DEALER :cry1

Aside from not using caps, you should read the post.
It was Harley and it was ordered from Harley– a good old HD dealer at that.

It might be the fault of the factory, or your own dealer, but more likely it could be the fault of another less scrupulous dealer altogether...

One day I was sitting at the parts counter of my dealer just hanging out looking through catalogs and a guy came in to pick up some Python Pipes that he just ordered (through DS or CCI) that had just arrived. The parts guy (Dennis he's a good honest guy) went out back grabbed the box and set it on the counter. He said to the guy that ordered the pipes "we ought to open them up and make sure the chrome is in good shape before you take them home". So they opened the box, the chrome was in good shape, but the insides of the pipes were black like they had been installed on a bike then returned to the parts vendor. Dennis was all apologetic for the problem and said that he has seen things like that before were a clearly used part will get back into circulation as new, it doesn't happen often but enough that it doesn't come as a complete shock when he sees it anymore. After a few more apologizes, he said he would return them and get another set for the guy or give him a discount on something else they had in stock if he'd like.

JE,
how do you like your '05 Low? Is that chopper blue?
If so, I have the same bike and really like it...
How does the Low fit you? I am 5'7" and it fits me really well...
What mod's have you done? I see the tach and the chrome tach/speedo dressing. Nice. I would like to get that too...
Sorry about the windscreen. I'd be pissed too. Especially for the $ the stealers charge.

I use to be 5'6". The bike fits me just fine. Yes, it's copper blue. I am a bit nuts, so far I got about 4600 hundred into it. The latest item, I just ordered
the 4.5 1200 custom fuel tank. One of the nices things I added was the passing lights. Here is two pictures but I've added a lot since they was taken.

I got the windscreen on and it looks really good.
The forks on the 883 Low 3" shorter between the trees, combine that with the passing light attachments the mounting brackets are a real tight fit.
Because of this tight fit I am sure the detachable windscreen is going to be
tough to remove and put back on.
I'll get pictures tomorrow to post.

Hey JaggedEdge,

So what happened when you took the old windshield back to the dealer? Sounds like you got a new one?

[B]I have been disapointed with the chrome stuff comming from HD in general. I also purchased a chrome swingarm and it was in a sealed box straight from the factory and it was dull on some of the end spots where it had been rubing in the box and had some scratches on it. I was able to use a buffer and repolish the part, as I also didn't want to wait for another one. Also the way they pack stuff sucks, in plastic bags with a little cardboard to protect it just floating around in the box.

love those passing lights.

I do too. When I put on the new XL Custom fuel tank the bike will have a nice wide look. I think with the lights up front, the wide handle bars and the
two gauges the peanut tank looks a little strange.
