I just installed the new SE air cleaner. Wow what a difference. I didnt think that it would be noticeable ,but the bike seems to run smoother and gear changes seem to come later. Anyhow I need to know if I need to rejet. I have CS slip-on (at least that is what previous owner stated they are.). I had a 48 slow jet installed previously by the dealer as I was having some problems and they thought that might help as a quick fix after looking @ the dyno run. Every thing else is pretty much stock. After I instailled air cleaner I took for short 15-20 mile run. I got into varying speeds up to 55mph. Seemed to run good no hesitation, ran smooth. Did overrun(diesel) a little when I got back and hit kill switch. What do yall think am I OK or what should I put in? Oh by the way it is a a 96 hugger 883. thanks in advance -- timf

It's probably running rich. 48 is a little on the outside. Check your plugs. If they're black or sooty go to the 45.

When I asked the dealer about rejetting when I installed my SE breather kit and Vance & Hines pipes he told me to leave my main jet and install a 48 slow jet. I did and it runs fine.

I don't know what your elevation is so I can't argue with your dealer. I had a 48 in mine aqnd it was a little to rich. Check the color of your plugs to be sure. Also, if your bike starts in the morning without a choke, it's definetly too rich.

just my 2 cents worth.

The reason that the 48 was installled was that with just the muffler change it was runninig lean. That was the problem I refered to having. I will check the plugs to see. If I go backwards with the jets after adding the air cleaner wont that put me back into a lean condition? -- tim f

I am at about 1200' above sea level.

Mine is a 45 in the slow and a 160 in the main; Bike screams like nobody's business.

Chances are you were running a 42 in the carburetor when you put your mufflers on. A 45 would be a bump up from where you started and would prolly be just right. Of course, as previously stated, the 48 may be proper for where you are but it seems that most are able to go with the 45.

48 -180 main should be good at your elevation
DISCLAIMER: every bike is different, most the same
I live at the beach {sea level} right down the road a bit from you,and my
bike has that jetting, only difference is i run a
Forcewinder AC.
Need to check into the timing if your bike is over running
like you say it is. May have to retard a few degrees to help
with the dieseling affect your experiencing. :yikes

I didnt get to ride today but I did check my plugs. the electrodes were a darker gray color. however the outer edges(thread diameter) was black but not ashy/sooty. I cleaned them off and will ride it some this week as it is suppose to be nice again this week. I might just go get some new plugs so I dont get miss-readings.

I must use the enrichener in the morning for a few minutes or it wont stay running at all

Ill do this also. this is one of the complaints that I had when I originally went to the dealer before anything was done. It seem not to be quite as bad after the jetting. I dont know if it had anything to do with it but it seemed that way.

Thanks again for all the help. Ill keep yall posted -- timf
