What does the Magazine say about Oil or is it a secret ? debster 9th October 2005, 18:26 So, for those of us who don't have it and can't get it, what is the conclusion? Cheers, Brett I just read it today, and it was excellent. Basically it goes into all the nuts & bolts of various oils, when/why to change it, the effects of temperature on it, the functions of oil in your engine, weights, brands, which one you might want to use in your engine and why, etc. The article concluded by saying that overall, semi-synthetic is better than dino, and fully synthetic is best. The author was Donny Petersen/Heavy Duty Cycles/Toronto. Bikerdude 10th October 2005, 04:11 AND........that he suggest NOT using 20w50 multi-grades in pre-evo's(shovels, knuckles, and Ironhead XL's). He suggestes sticking to straight grades for these bikes. So, if I read him correctly, I am NOT to use a oil designed for the newer aluminum motors in my Ironhead..thus...NOT to use synthetics.....hhhmmmmm..is this why I still use the dino oil??? The mystery continues..............:smoke FSZEKE302 10th October 2005, 04:36 Didn't get my issue yet, but this is the best bike mag I've found yet for American bikes. Lots tech on old and new engines. Only one I subscribe to. 74FeHeadXLH 10th October 2005, 05:02 AND........that he suggest NOT using 20w50 multi-grades in pre-evo's(shovels, knuckles, and Ironhead XL's). Bikerdude 15th October 2005, 14:42 I thought this thread was about Oil but it is really about buying a Magazine ? What does the Magazine say about Oil or is it a secret ? I think I know what ya mean..but NO! The article is very informative. Of course, it is ONE guys interpretation of oil...for the most part. Really got me to thinking..especially since I have a 20 yr old Ironhead. 74FeHeadXLH 16th October 2005, 03:17 so what do ya use in your trans.? same oil....I get it at the indy I've been dealing with for many years....and mine's 32 yrs old, just got back from a 250+ mi round trip, 2-up ride up to the mountains and back...we've done this trip prolly 15 times this yr so far, more last year gfrazzle 31st October 2005, 02:50 What was the AI article recommendation for transmissions? I read it and think I remember that 75W90 synthetic (moble 1?) was the best but I can't find my issue. Thanks |
