I bought the chrome switches to replace the black ones i have on the bike. my harley dealer told me it is a real pain to do since there are springs and stuff inside that usually go flying when you dismatle the assembly. So i took it apart anyway trying to do it myself. it was not hard getting the black switches off and there really was not that many springs to deal with only on the start button and the turn signals (which i have to figure out how to get the bottom half off so i can replace the turn signal switch. looks like i will have to take the idle and throttle cables off the throttle grip to allow the bottom half of the switch housing to come down) but when i got the black ones off and tried to put the chrome ones on i broke 2 of them. i even tried to heat up the second one becuase it is cold out here to try to make the plastic more flexible. anyway does anyone here know the trick to getting these on. i have to go buy a new set soon and try it again. thank god it is not a real expensive part.

I installed the chrome switches myself. You are right, it can be a pain. Just take your time and try to start one side and then take a really small screwdriver and insert it under the other side and press firmly down, it will go!

When I did mine I was also replacing the housing with chrome ones. I'm not sure how you are doing it but take the whole switch out, slip on the center part first and then push sideways on the chrome piece until the outer clip catches. Also make sure its in the proper position so you don't have to go back and do it again. Mine went on with no problems

I did it the same way davidsdad described. It took a lot if patience and a little bit of prying. I did it in the summer, so it was plenty warm out. I would think that doing it in the winter would make it very brittle.
