Hi all!

I'm considering doing a swap "back" to stock pipes and mufflers - I just got the bike, and am curious about sound & performance differences, and the guy who sold me the bike threw in the stock setup. Do I need to pick up any gaskets or other consumables to do the job (probably twice, once my curiosity is satisfied)?

If it matters, the bike is an 04 883 XL with Drag Specialties 2" drag pipes (no baffles) & SE A/C.

If they are slip-ons you will probably need a couple of the seal thingys (can't remember what they're called) that fit over the part where the stock pipes connect to the hidden crossover pipe. You'll see what I mean when you start installing them. Check with your dealer. They shouldn't be very expensive.

Your performance will definitely suffer, but you would notice an even better improvement if you installed some baffles in those pipes. Check out Big City Thunder (do a Google search). I hear their baffles are high performance with a great sound.

You might not have the little seal thingys that JD is talking about. I don't trhink you use them with drag pipes.
These are little wire asbestos type donuts that seal the mufflers nwhere they attach to the cross over pipe.
Check the stock mufflers to see if they are still in the hoel flange on the side of the mufflers. You may be able to reuse them if they are not damaged.
good luck

When I remove my pipes, I always use new gaskets in the exhaust ports. Of course, YMMV.
